  1. They are not the same thing, but they do fall into the same category. Turtles love fruit , they all seem to have a sweet tooth, but it came give them an upset tummy, so feed it sparingly as a treat. Baby RES require alot more protein than a full grown RES. You will have better results if you supplement a feeding of turtle pellets, preferably the baby turtle formula, with dark green leafy vegetables such as collards. Avoid spinach, however, it blocks calcium absorption. If you have a problem getting them to eat pellets, try mixing a little brine shrimp in with them, the smell will attract them to the food.
By the way, your RES can live to be in his 30′s and can reach a size of roughly 13 inches.

Hello…now that you’ve explained more, even tho I’ve answered this, they way your keeping them is not going to work, they need more constant warm temps..like 80 degrees or so & while the melons are OK..they also need worms of sorts & with the plactic wrap over your turtles your lucky you haven’t cooked them #1 & #2 UV does not penetrate plactic or glass..has to be a SCREEN ( like window screen ) top ONLY !! Take Care :)

Cantaloupe- is muskmelon basically, and is NOT a good food for RES. Baby RES are meat-eaters, and NO RES needs fruits.

Transparent cloth cover- UVB (UVA is not a big deal) does not penetrate most glass or plastic. It may not be penetrating your cover.

If the tub is big enough, warm enough (but never over 85F water temp), etc, that should be OK.
