Last saturday I reserved a baby cockateil at a petstore in leesburg,2 weeks from today I can come pick the bird up.I know a little, but im not an expert on birds yet.I need all information I need to know, like feeding times, kinds of toys I can use, ect.
The best book I read on raising cockatiels was “Cockatiels for Dummies”. Nice book to read.
Also check out http://www.cockatiels.org and http://www.cockatielcottage.net. Both of these websites have great information.
Not sure how old your baby is, but I suggest you get recommendations for a bird vet to understand the best foods for your bird. Typically mostly a pellet diet, supplemented with fresh veggies, and you can make them special foods like cornbread, Cheerios, pasta. (Example no-nos are alcohol, fruit seeds, avocado, and chocolate)
Toys, tiels love toys. Save your empty paper towel rolls; they love to chew on paper and palm fronds. Popsicle sticks stuck in an empty paper towel roll will provide hours of enjoyment. Pet stores have cockatiel sized toys, so get a variety and rotate them
I used to breed cockatiel chicks for a petstore specializing in birds and the manager said my cockatiel chicks were his favorite because they always turned out tamer than any of his others.

You can fead your cockateil 3 times
In the morning
In the afternoon
In the evening
You can put a swing in his/her cage make sure that the swing is attached firmly to the top of the cage allow enough room for the cockateil to fit comfortably.
When you pick your cockateil up from the pet shop ask them.
hope this help you

There are lots of great message boards out there too. I recommend joining one, as there might be questions you have that you can’t find answered on websites. I run my own message board on parrots and we have lots of tiel owners on it: http://www.lovethosetiels.net/forum

My cockatiels like bells. They like to stick there head up them and try to get the dinger. You have to be gentle with them an speak softly. Let them now you want to be there friend and you don’t want to hurt them. Also, my cockatiels love millet. If you are trying to hand feed them, try that. They love it and will most likely come over to you to get some. good luck!
