i found a baby bird in my patio, HELP ME SAVE IT!!?

there has been a mother bird in my patio building a nest fir around the past two or three weeks, and two days ago, the eggs hatched. now, this morning, i found the two baby birds on the ground. the mother is gone, and the nest is broken. one of them had blood around it, and it is for sure dead because there were ants on it and everything.but, the other baby bird, is still alive, thank god. but it`s eyes are still closed shut, and it only makes little movements but it cannot walk or fly. i`ve been watching it, and it tries to fly by moving it`s wings, but it has not been successful. what can i do to keep it alive? i have no idea what kind of bird it is, but i`m in san diego, CA if that helps. please, help me, what can i do to save it? what can i feed it, how do i feed it? please, help save a bird?
and please don`t tell me that it`s too late, even if it is. i really want to save it.
here is a picture of the mother that i took a few days ago. can this help find out what kind the bird is?

  1. call the local vets

  2. you need to call your local vet, animal control, or wildlife center. They will know what to do for the bird. It is a difficult task to take care of such a young bird- especially not know what kind it is.

  3. My husband found a baby bird once and everyone told me it would die no matter what I did. But I went to the pet shop and bought some of the baby bird formula…you feed it with a syringe. You have to be careful though…make sure you read about it because the food could go into their lungs instead of their crop. Also make sure you stir it good after heating it so there are no “hot spots.” The bird needs to be kept warm. I had mine in a small box with towels and also kept the box partially covered to keep drafts out. My bird made it and once he learned to fly and could eat on his own, we took him to a park and let him go. Hope this helps =)

Definitely make some calls though…I did, but there was no one in my area that would take the bird. I have experience raising birds (parrots) so I tried on my own.

get a cardboard box and shed plenty of newspaper in it. remove the baby bird from loud and distracting noises. take a lamp shade off a lamp so that the baby can get some heat, but dont let it get too close to the newspaper = fire hazard. try not to touch the bird to much, it could put him in shock… your gonna have to go buy a small bottle at the pet store. i have successfully saved puppies, kittens, baby birds by simple giving them my kids simalac baby formula and water until they were able to feed on there own.. feed it baby every 3 hours, make sure you wrap it up in a towel before touching it.. the local animal shelter will answer any questions and if you dont want to can for it and think it might not make it they will take the bird…..good luck

  6. Go to your local pet shop and take the bird with you. There are commercial bird foods for most kinds of baby birds. You can also make a mix to help feed it too, depending on the breed. There is also fish and game to help if you call them in california, they often help rescue animals like this. But you will need to hurry as these kinds of birds will perish fast without the right kind of food soon. It does take knowing what you are doing too in feeding any kind of baby bird, so you could call a vet too. Best of blessings,

First put it in a cardboard box, line the bottom of the box with some towels to make it soft and bring it inside if you already haven’t. Since this is a wild bird contact your nearest wildlife rehab center, you didn’t mention the species but most species are federally protected and require proper licensing, do not feed the bird / try to give it water you’ll probably just kill it… If you aren’t sure where the nearest rehab center is contact a vet or local humane society and they should know, otherwise you can check here http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm . The trick is to get it to someone who has the proper knowledge / training asap to maximize the bird’s chance of survival.

    Good luck

Edit: Based on the picture it is a mourning dove, protected species, hurry it off to a rehab center, it needs to be fed by someone who knows how to do so properly !

Okay, it’s a Mourning Dove. Quickly get a box and put something comfortable like a towel or newspaper in it. Then carefully and gently put it in the box and put it somewhere warm. Call a vet, or an animal shelter. Here’s a site about and a part from it: http://www.avianavenue.com/wild_baby_birds.html

If you do find a REAL orphan or injured baby bird, please do the following:

1.Get it to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator AS SOON AS POSSIBLE; the longer the delay, the less chance it has of surviving

2.Keep the baby bird WARM and in a quiet, dark place until you can bring it in (a small cardboard box works well)

3.DO NOT give the baby bird any liquids (they get all they need from their food and very often will inhale any liquid).

Here’s another site and a some parts in it: http://pages.prodigy.net/kingbrian/orphan.htm

    Locating the Nest

In most cases, the baby bird should be left on the ground. However, if you find a baby bird on the ground that is in danger of being attacked by a predator, try to locate the nest. If at all possible, return the baby bird to the nest. Birds do not have a true sense of smell, so the myth that birds will reject a baby bird if touched by a human is not true. However, human touch does make it easier for a predator — cat, raccoon, etc. to find a baby bird.

If it becomes absolutely necessary to care for a truly orphaned bird temporarily, the following steps can be taken to keep the bird alive while you wait for a wildlife rehabilitator:
    Step One: Provide Warmth

If a nest cannot be located, the first important step is to provide the baby bird with warmth. A heating pad set on low heat, a hot water bottle or even hot water in a glass bottle, wrapped in a towel so it is warm to the touch, will do.
    Step Two: Create A Nest

Baby birds do not support themselves very well. You will need to create a nest-like environment so the baby bird has a place to rest its head. The “nest” helps support the bird’s body while feeding. The nest needs to be kept clean, so create it out of something easy to clean — like plastic berry boxes — and have tissue ready to clean up waste sacs. Rough paper towels are a good choice for lining the “nest.” Paper, cotton and cloth can catch easily in the bird’s toenails, so avoid using these materials. Also, keep in mind that grass clippings should not be used because they are damp and cold aginst baby bodies.
Step Three: Care For The Bird

Since it is best not to feed baby birds, the rehabilitator can instruct you about the next steps to take.

I’m not sure but I think that you shouldn’t throw the dead chick away. The people that come might need it to know what happened. Ohhh, pooooor chick. I really hope that it will be okay and that this helps. Also, if it might take a while for them to come, ask them what you can do while there on the way. Good luck to both of you!

ok this is easy that bitd you see in the picture is a common morning dove what you need to do is this (first doves are vegitarians dont feed it worms)
1.find a place or a bird cage place a heating pad under the cage on one side and some kind of beding lay the bird there.
2.find kitten formula or dog formula and find a feeding tube (not a straw but it may work may not) be very carful if you dont have a tube try to feed it by spoon or hand
    3. if you dont have that stuff grits may be okay for it
4.care for it and keep it safe maksure its warm and happy clean it and as it gets older it may get independent)
    5. as it gets older you have 2 choices shoice to set it free if you do dont give it alot of attention if you choice to keep it as a pet give it lots and lots of intention
    6. as it gets older feed it canary or fench feed (small seeds little by little)
7.you may want to resurch it
8.after it grows it fethers let it go out side litle by little also leave a food bowl in the cage and water keep it warm but not to warm
9.one day it will leave and fly
