Bird in your case can symbolize freedom. However, feeding birds symbolize responsibilities.
There are something going on in your mind that you feel anxious about. It may have something to do with your daily task. You project birds because bird somehow in your subconscious mind symbolize a small and big responsibilities. I am not sure what you mean by their food hurt your body so much?! Unless you are the food and feed the bird with it. In that case, that means you are being pushed to do certain things that you don’t feel like doing it. It is again symbol of responsibilities.

I have a dream interpretation book called “The Dictionary of Dreams”- when I looked up birds it said:
“To see a wounded bird is fateful of deep sorrow caused by erring offspring”
“For a woman to dream of her mother, signifies pleasant duties and connubial bliss”
“To dream that you are in pain, will make sure of your own unhappiness. This dream foretells useless regrets over some trivial transaction”
The book has you look up specific details of dreams for interpretation. If you gave some more details, like what kind of birds they are or where you are or what you feed them, things like that, I may be able to get some more.
