Where there is food, there are critters!! The trick is in learning what critters can’t do!
For pole type bird feeders: grease the pole with petroleum jelly. They will get the message pretty quick and go elsewhere for goodies.
Use squirrel “baffles” of inverted metal cones on bird feeder poles or wires that suspend the feeders. There are many homemade variations on this method.

Feed the chipmunks what they like best: peanuts in the shell. They’ll leave your feeders alone because they are so busy hauling peanuts to their dens.
