If you have canaries and finches ect. then colony breeding’s fine. But when I tried colony breeding with budgies and cockatiel and I found the other birds of the same species kept killing the babies when they was a few weeks old when the parents left to feed, so I’d go with cage breeding.

Hi,
It depends what species you want to breed, softbills finches etc will be fine but budgies may be problematic but all other hook bills are fine with colony breeding.
Budgies can be aggressive and hens can be jealous and in a colony aviary these hens can kill ckicks, eat eggs etc so with budgies its best to go with cages this way its one pair to one cage so no problems.
