My question is that i want to have 2 male parakeets and two female parakeets in the same cage. Though i want them to mate and have a nesting box in the cage. Due to 2 male and female birds would that interrupt mating between any of them with limited nesting area
If you want them to mate they have to be alone in the cage…they wont mate with others there. Even if it’s a very large cage, there would be alot of fights..keets are rather aggressive and are known for causing harm to other keets. Especially in breeding situtations.

If you want to breed from them you need two cages side by side or a very large one even an aviary.
They are quite nasty toward each other when breeding,as you say yourself they will interrupt each other when trying to breed.
So separate them !!

hi,
i wouldn’t keep the birds in the same cage unless they are raised together. and the chances are that if there is a nesting box in the cage the birds will fight over it and may become aggressive towards each other. so if you are going to keep the birds in the same cage with a nest box than i suggest that there are only two birds in the cage. my reasoning for this is because the birds may want to mate at the same time as the other birds and they will end up fighting over the nest box. which may result in serious injury or even death.
i have six budgies, 1 linnie parakeet, 2 baby scarlet macaws, and a 10 week old hahn’s macaw. and i would never put more than two birds in the same cage with a nest box.
if they do agree to mat at the same time and don’t mind the other couple being there than they may neglect their babies and look after the other birds babies and that would result in the death of some of the babies and maybe even a fight between to of the mother birds.
therefore i strongly recommend that if you were to keep to keep four birds in the same cage.

Usually females would try to fight as it is natural even in the wild.To make a successful breeding in captivity you must keep two pairs in two different cages. This can solve your problem.

The two females will without doubt fight over the one nest box. Its always good to put AT LEAST 2 in the cage sometimes three when you have 2 couples of birds in one cage. In some ways parakeets are like human children. If they another budgie occuping a nest box, while they have one of their own, they may just decide that “hey, I deserve that nest box.” and then fight over it. Which brings me back to 3 boxes. With three boxes they can all freely decide which one they want.
Best of Luck. Feel free to email.
