Do love birds eat their young?

I have a pair of love birds. The A/c blows extremely cold in their room so I put a nest box in the cage, they apparently think it’s a stab-in cabin, b/c there are four or five eggs I noticed a month ago, I checked last night in the box with a flashlight and it looks like one egg is cracked and another has a quarter inch hole in it, but I don’t see any babies?? I kind of concerned any advice?? Would really appreciate some educated opinions, from experienced bird lovers, list source if not too much inconvenience. Thank you
Thank you “Miki” for taking the time to answer my question.

I’d like to explain a little further into the temp. I made it sound like an arctic zone in their room, but the coldest it gets in there is probably 68degrees, big two level apt. 7-10 degrees warmer in other rooms at times. Made that their room b/c good windows and I understand that sunlight and cuttlebones are a good source of calcium for the little fellows. What would be an Ideal temp. for their young to hatch.?

no they do not eat their young maybe your eggs weren’t in the right Temperature and suddenly died then they decay

  2. birds are tropical. get them out of the cold and make sure you keep it nice. not to warm and not to cold. and no they don’t eat their eggs, they will how ever brake them. that is their way of saying hey get them out they are no good.

Lovebirds are found wild in Africa. They prefer a warmer temperature. Keep them right around 80F, normally. If they are a breeding pair, up the temp between 85-90. I would put a humidifier in the room when you notice she is going to lay. This is supposed to help prevent egg binding. Remove the cracked eggs. The incubation period on the eggs is 21-25 days, so if it’s been longer than that on the others, you are safe to remove them, as well, and allow the pair to start over with a warmer temp. Hope this helps!
