This is the first time my cockatiels have laid eggs. The first one was on the cage floor but I may have saved it by putting it in a nest box with bird nesting within 24 hrs. However, that’s not my biggest concern. One of the 6 eggs has a small crack that goes lengthwise. It is probably a half an inch if even. I hear colorless nail polish works but I only have colored polish! Anything else that may work???? I don’t have a car right now to get to the drugstore. I’m afraid time is running out. Also, the parents are EXTREMELY AGGRESSIVE AND PROTECTIVE. Even the normally sweet female, bit me very hard and it’s bleeding profusely. By the way, should I see a doctor? I’m up to date on tetnus. I’d really like these eggs to hatch! I’ve been researching a lot and have 4 books on ‘tiels but none list anything but the nail polish. PLEASE HELP!!!! If the egg was on the cage floor it means the parents put it there its not going to hatch. The one with the crack if its not open dont worry about it. The parents will take care of it.

The American Cockatiel Society recommends: “If for some reason an egg becomes chipped or cracked, assuming it isn’t overly damaged, you may repair it. I use egg white or clear nail polish. Take a clean small soft brush and paint the damaged area. One coat of nail polish is usually enough but you will need several coats of egg white. No need to see the doctor for your bite – just clean it well, put antibiotic ointment on it, and a band-aid.
Many people think that hand-feeding is the only way to produce friendly babies, but this is not true. If the parents are friendly, and you handle the babies every day starting from about 7 to 10 days old, they will be friendly.
