you need to but things like Cotton wool at the bottom of your cage the birds will do the Rest

What kind of birds? And I don’t think what happens when you put your hand in the cage has anything to do with anything.

well the first thing that you will need to do is to buy a breeding box from a local pet store.ask in specific for budgie breeding box size ,the hen (female will only throw out nesting material so it not needed.if the hen (female) is her poo would increase dramatically in size, she would become more aggressive,and posibly bite when hands enter cage.she will be territorial and be protective of her nesting erea or breeding box.after mating she will lay her first egg within a few weeks,and lay more every other day.the hatching procces takes 18 to 21 days and one will hatch every other day in order of being layed the mother will feed them for the first couple of weeks then the father (mate) will pitch in and help as well.you will need to keep a close eye to insure that ALL hatchlings are being fed,as you will have to feed ones not being fed as much as others.well that sums it all up hope every thing goes as plans good luck.
You can also tell if she is preg if the couple are cought succesfully mating, this is when the female lifts her rear feathers as the male gets on top and puts his under her…..

Well, for the nesting box, you can get one at petsmart for $8.For nesting material, you can use timothy hay and torn up cotton balls.
