  1. If you really think shes dieing I would go to the nearest vet just to find out.

  2. She may be egg bound or just in strange position sometimes they put their bodies in strange positions to cover the eggs or keep them warmer. If she is egg bound she will probably puff up, pant, and even do what she is doing. If you can lift her up and look at vent. Do you see egg? If so I would increase humidity in room she is in as this sometimes helps. You can also get a q-tip and put mineral oil on it and gently insert just a litle way into vent to lubricate and help pass egg just dont break the egg. I would increase her calcium intake with cuttle bones and crushed oyster shell. If keeps laying will become defeciant in calcium which can lead to weakness, seizures and even death. Takes a lot of calcium for them to make eggs and depleates fast. Let her lay on eggs until she tires of them or she will keep laying and become defeciant in calcium levels. Many birds do not leave the nest while have eggs to eat or drink. I have had to take my birds off their nests at times and make them go potty and feed and drink. I would call the vet and explain what is going on and see what advice they give. better safe than sorry. Hope this helped some and good luck I hope she is ok.

  3. This isn’t normal, for sure. Something is wrong.
    Leave her eggs alone.
Look at her droppings, are the larger than normal and real messy.
Has she stopped eating. If yes to both questions, then get her to a good Avian vet right away. Birds can die quickly if egg binding is the reason.

Don’t take her to just any ol vet, most dog and cat vets don’t know enough about avian species and often they do more harm than good.

Do Not insert anything into this birds vent as told by another here. This takes an experienced person with avian knowledge and even then can cause serious problems and/or kill the hen.

If you have a Humidifier, run it, or boil water on the stove to increase the moisture in the air for her.

  4. Sounds like she is eggbound and will die if you do not do something to save her. If she does not have a cuttlebone and broccoli several times a week, she did not get enough calcium.

You can drop a few drops of warm oil – olive oil is okay, on her cloaca – where the eggs, poop and pee come out. If the oil can coat the egg it may be able to come out. If it breaks – she dies, painfully.

You can prevent egg laying by cutting down on daylight by covering the cage early in the evening.

I hope you can help her. A vet would inject her with calcium. You can also take her out of the cage and put her in a small box on top of a heating pad. Watch she is not too warm and panting from the heat.
This can help her push the egg out. IF she survives – remove all the eggs.
