nature doesn’t always make sense…but you should leave it alone… what will be, will be…

Now that it smells like humans (if you used your hands) the parents will keep pushing it out of the nest. Best to leave these things be.
If you feel that you must return the bird to the nest, do it in a way that it will not come directly in contact with you.
Sorry to give you bad news, I’ve been through this myself.

They are wild birds, and more or less this is normal.
The babies are apparently fledglings, and will be flying soon. They have already left the nest, as fledglings often do just before they learn to fly. As you’ve seen, the parents still take care of them.
If it were me, I’d be tempted to frighten the birds a little to induce them to go someplace safer; but I don’t know how much good it would really do.
It is not true that birds reject babies handled by humans. Birds don’t care about scent. Some mammals react that way, but not birds.

The baby birds have fledged. They will be able to fly a bit. The parents will take care of these babies. This is the natural progression. They leave the nest then the parents find them and feed them. Then after a few days of this they will be flying good enough to follow the parents and beg for food. If you meddle with them to much the parents will abandon them.
People think just because they see the baby on the ground that it is going to die. This isn’t so. This is just how wild doves do.
The parent dove is acting like it has a broken wing so you will chase it and move away from the baby. They will be fine. That is if you leave them alone.

First dragon has it right. Most birds except vultures have no sense of smell. They are fledging. If mom and dad picked a bad place to raise a family this time they will pick a better place next time.

Unforntunately birds leave the nest before they can fly so they are very vulnerable at this stage. This is normal..and the parents will tend to them and feed them until they learn. They usually will hide in a scrub, or tree. The best you can do is scare cats away from the area, and if you see a cat stalking a chick..you can place the chick high up in a tree or tall scrub where it will be relatively safe. Hopefully they will be flying soon and will be able to escape predators.
