Both male ans females will take turns sitting on any eggs they might have. You can take a quick peek and see if there are any eggs. The birds should be fine if you just lift the lid for 5 seconds to see. Most pet birds are used to you being around anyway, even if they’re not tame. A quick check should not bother them enough to cause them to abandon the nest. However if you continually bother them, they might abandon due to feeling they’re nest is not safe and secure enough.
There’s a chance that the birds might be getting ready to lay eggs, already have laid them, or in some cases if breeding conditiond aren’t right, they just like the nest box, and think it’s a great place to sleep. You won’t know unless you check.
If there are eggs, just leave them alone, make sure the parents have a good healthy diet (not just seeds), and plenty of access to a cuttlebone, mineral block, and fresh food and water.
