Not knowing the age of the egg or if it was being incubated by the parent will make it imp possible to hatch. It is illegal to have anything wild unless you are licensed. You should have left it where it was and leave all wild life alone.

  4. Put the egg back where you found it immediately. You are breaking the law. All native wild birds in North America are protected by law. You are not allowed to tamper with nests, or take eggs.

Please leave wild animals alone. They can raise their own babies. They don’t need your help.

It probably wont hatch. If it does you should try to find a wild animal rescue that will know what to do with a day old baby bird. Or a vet.
If you cant find one, you will need Kaytee brand bird formula called “Exact”. (They have it here in the US, but I don’t know about the UK…)
You will need to hand-feed it many times a day with a small syringe.
Don’t get your hopes up though… bird eggs are difficult to hatch.
Here is a list of wild animal rescues in England:

I work at a wild animal rescue in California.

  6. They are correct, it is illegal for you to have the egg. I would suggest you check out this site and get the help you and the egg need. You will not get into trouble for contacting a wildlife rehabilitator. They have information for people outside the US toward the bottom of the page.
