Well, it is quite oxvious you have a female bird laying eggs. I know what the pet store and books told you, but unless you had a DNA test done, you cannot sex a bird- OR, if they lay an egg, that's a no brainer.

Hope i helped good luck!

Hey mackenzie, I think you are doing a great job, but i think you should leave them. The birds are just protecting their eggs, because they want to make sure that no one hurts the eggs. Diablo is being a litttttle over protective, but he is doing his job. Seperate them asap if this gets worse, and try to make him stop biting her some how.

Hope i helped good luck!

hello mackenzie,
what happened to your other acount.unlike most birds cockatiels both male and female will sit on the eggs i know it seems wierd but its true well you of course need to seperate them since the female cant pruduce healhy eggs so often let them mate only 3 or 4 times a year good luck.

I think that you should let Diablo and Grey Grey be together and that, you, as the owner should not take Grey Grey out for awhile. When my cockatiels were breeding and my girl laid her eggs, the guy was very overprotective and didn't like when we even hand fed the girl, so we just left them alone and they did just fine. The girl ended up laying 5 eggs, 4 of them hatched and 3 of them survived. The parents took equal responsibility and all we did was change their food and water as often as needed.
I would greatly advise for you to NOT seperate the male and female. Usually if one of our cockatiels are fighting, we spray the misbehaving bird with a spray bottle and that usually gets the message through to him, since it's normally one of the guys who are causing the ruckess.
I really hope this works and wish you the best of luck with hatching those chicks!

As a owner of five cockatails two breeding pairs and one regular, i think i can tell you that the over protective nature of the bird is perfectly normal. it would be unwise to seperate them as they take turns laying on the eggs, to give each other a break from it. also leave the chicks in longer, i took the new born chicks away from thier parents with the first bacth i had, and two of the three died.

some times the first time for any cage bird about half or none will be fertile but the 2ed time is better so don't be surprised if they aren't fertile ,you will know in about 3 weeks ,do you know how to candle the eggs?well you take a bright light and shine it through the eggs if you see that they are clear then they haven't got it right yet if theirs a dark spot then you probably got baby's on the way ,give calcium vitamins greens, fruits so they can have a diet to build up strong bones and feathers

If you returned your nesting box immediately after realizing there were eggs in it, then there may be a chance for survival of the eggs. Let the hen sit on them for a a few more weeks and see if the eggs hatch (it usually takes 18 days or so).

Give the mating pairs more fruits and vegetables, especially if the eggs hatch. They need the extra nourishment to supply food for their chicks. Sprouted and soaked seed/legumes, as well as nestling food (I personally think the kind that ABBA PRODUCTS CORP. produces is excellent) are all good choices. You may see that your birds will eat foods that the normally wouldn't eat before. This is because they are trying to eat the most nutritious foods so that their babies can have a good start in life.

Good luck. I'm hoping that you'll have hatching eggs soon!

your female is too young for babies, there could be something wrong with it. she will be ready when she is 18 months old. you do not want deformed babies. when she is ready you should learn all that you can , the babies might need you to feed them, you must know what you are doing. the father will do all the taking care of the babies, the father will not hurt them. i hold the babies when they are 1 week old, for a couple of minutes each day, i talk to him and pet his little head, they will be more friendly to people if you want them to be a good bird. i do this when the parents are out of box, eating if she knew what she was doing she would go in nest box. i have a breeding pair that being old enough were looking for a place around the house until i got the box

i have 6 birds and a breeding pair that have had many babies
