do you have to get a nest box, or can u use a round nest made of twigs? I have an open round one in the cage.?

I have had my budgie Sammi for about 3 years and our neighbors just moved and gave us their bird Coco. Sammi is the female and Coco is the male he is about the same age. I have a nice big cage lots of toys and they love the bottom of the cage filled with the bedding you use for hamsters. I don’t really want to put a nest box in there. I just caught them mating and was wondering if she will lay her eggs without a nest box.

I have a male cockatiel age 7 years and a female 9 months.?

Last week the young female laid an egg on the floor of the cage. I bought a nesting box, attached it to the cage, and with a paper towel moved the egg into the box on soft material purchased with the box. I do not see either of the birds sitting on the eggs or even going into the box. Today I found another egg on the cage floor and moved it into the box as before.
I would like to have a baby cockatiel. Am I doing things correctly? If not, how should I proceed?

Baby parakeet wont eat!! I have handfed it. Now wont eat it!!?

I started to handfeed 2 parakeets when the parents flew away. They are about to have all of their feathers and 1 of them used to eat so well but now he refuses to eat. He will not eat seed we had started them on millit and he eats just a little bit of that. I am thinking of puting him in a parakeet nesting box with the other birds his age are with the parents feeding it. What should i do? put in the box? or what action and if u know i would like to know what has too?

What do I do with this little bird?

A bird fell out of its nest in our back yard and my little sister wanted to save it… so here we are. I did this myself when I was her age (8-years-old), but I seem to have forgotten what to feed it and how to keep it safe and healthy. Right now it’s in a little shoe box, and is an awfully trusting little thing (it came to me when I went to get it in the back yard – no obnoxious chirping or chasing around involved)

long story short – I just need some advice on the best thing to do for it. What/how do I feed and water it? How do I help it to fly? (so we can let it go when it is strong enough) and is there anything else I should know?

Here is a picture of it: http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa318/Avelais/LittleBird.jpg?t=1210728630

I don’t know what type it is. Thanks!

3 year old small for her age. Only 24 pounds…but healthy. What can i feed her to promote growth?

Hi,
My daughter is tiny. just 24 pounds at 3 1/2 years old. good weight to height ratio. My husband is vietnamese, and many of his sisters are only maybe 100 lbs. She also has a milk and soy allergy- we found out when she turned 3, so I think that made a difference as well. Now she is eating a milk and soy free diet. Not being able to give her milk, I give her rice milk fortified with calcim and juice with calcium. What else is good to help her grow? She eats broccoli, meat, peanut butter and everything really. But eats like a bird. Takes me hours to feed her and playing games to get her to eat. It’s exhausting. Any suggestions? Thanks!

At what age do a baby cockatiel’s eyes open? And is it okay for the parents to be eating Cheerios?

I have 4 babies right now and 3 eggs left that may not hatch (1 was laid on the cage floor and the other 2 had cracks which I covered with clear nail polish). The parents are eating regular cockatiel food, millet, a powdery supplement for nesting birds, egg biscuits, cuttlebone (for calcium), broccoli, and Cheerios. They seem to like the Cheerios best and so far, the babies seem to be doing well (the oldest is 9 days old). Should I just continue on with what I’m doing then? I have been doing a lot of research on cockatiel breeding but I wasn’t prepared and that’s why the first egg was laid on the floor. I didn’t have a nest box in there since I didn’t think they had bred. Thanks for any info.!
