Can I Make A Career Out Of Breeding Cockatiels And Parakeets?

Dear Yahoo! Answer Members,

I was thinking that I didn’t want to go to college, because it costs to much money, and I’m not the most social person in the world. And the people on Y!A said that I don’t have to go to college to breed them. And I want to make enough money and enjoy what I do for the rest of my life.

I’m experienced with parakeets and cockatiels, but not breeding them, but I am going to learn before I start. I was wondering how many birds I should breed at a time? I know people don’t make that much money, but since they are the two most popular birds in the world, I thought I could live on that. And I do understand I need to buy nest boxes, food, and cages for them. And I am prepared to take them to a vet, and to take care of them if the mother and father reject them. I can’t do it for another six years, but I thought I should start learning now.

So can I make a career out of it? And for the people who are experienced with breeding cockatiels and parakeets, or other birds for a living, how well did it work for you?

do i have the the answer to increased fertility.?

i have a feeding regime that includes softfoods and supplements given on a regular basis to my budgerigars.my average clutch of eggs this year was nine with a 99.9% hatch rate,due to the large numbers of chicks per nest i had to use foster parents to rear half the chicks hatched.i think this year i have at last found the successful way to feed birds to increase fertility.the question i ask could a correct diet help those people who would love to have a child but have problems trying to concieve.we are what we eat.

Please answer these questions about “Noah’s Ark”?

1) How did an elderly man gather two of every animal (don’t forget insects, every kind of worm, predatory birds, venomous snakes, etc) on the planet?

2) How did said elderly man feed, and know exactly what to feed, these animals?

3) How did he keep them all alive, and seperated?

4) How did he get rid of all the sh*t?

5) How did this elderly man navigate such a large vessel up the Amazon, through the treacherous Arctic waters, and down the shallow Nile river, all by himself?

6) How did he re-distribute these animals after the flood?

7) If he indeed did gather 2 of every animal on the planet, wouldn’t he be the original person to discover every continent on the planet?
8) When actually telling people the story of this Ark, do you actually expect people to believe it?

One guideline when answering. Don’t say that “God helped him,” that’s a cop-out, and you know it.
Wow, no answers yet. C’mon people, you can surely do better, these are your beliefs afterall.
Well if God is so powerful, why didn’t he/she just take care of the whole thing for Noah, and let the old guy live out his golden years in peace?
You’re talking about angels, and i’m out of touch with reality?

Can white rice kill backyard birds if so i need asap answer.?

I have a large front & backyard that sits on a corner. I have birds
that come around and feed. Some are your usual type birds,
others are some wildlife type. My question is that the last couple
of mornings i have been finding small piles of white rice around
the area of my fence line. I know its for the birds i feed. I’m
wondering if the rice can be treated with some kind of poison
chemical. I heard there was some kind of poison that looks
loke rice but i never haerd it of it before til now. I know my
nieghbor or two are up to this, and if they are i want to know is
there any legal action that can be done to stop them. We have
a on going all out war with these people and we don’t even
talk to them. I really could use some help on this matter. I’m
afraid i might find some dead birds in the yard and i couldn’t
handle that. I’m to much of a wildlife person as well as animals.

Thought of building a bird house for feral pigeons… or at least some kind of shelter and seeing if a pair builds a nest on the balcony of the town house I live in.

There’s a few pigeons that live in my neighborhood and I have read about pigeons who have built nests on people’s balconies.

I plan on using a wooden crate used for shipping/holding wine as a good ‘nest box’ for a pair of pigeons, also is there anything I can/should do to make it….more, appealing?

The crates are 100% and don’t have any opening on the sides.

They’re a good size and are a bit deep. I think they’d be big enough. The crate wil be left on the balcony of the townhouse I live in. I DON’T have backyard.

We have a nesting box, why arent my parekeets mating yet?

we havent had them together for very long, maybe a couple months. the female bird is mean to the male bird. sometimes he’ll try kissing her and she’ll peck him away and then he’ll do his “robot head”. the pet owner said she’s in her laying egg years. she also seems interested in the nesting box but the male bird isnt. im not sure how old he is, we got him from a pet store too. based on these facts, why do you think they aren’t mating yet? does it take awhile for them to be completely used to each other?

Wild Bird Nest Box question, please answer?

I am on the student council at my school and i am trying to make the school better for the enviroment. One of my ideas is putting up nest boxes in some of our trees. The school is in central Ohio and our trees include some soft bristle pines and some other decidous trees. I was wondering what kind of birds we should be able to attract, how to attract them, and how to make sure that we buy good quality nest boxes that will be easy to clean and stand up to weather, as well as be good for the birds too of course. I also need to know how far to space them apart so that i know they will all be used. please answer, the next student council meeting is coming up and i we dont have them very often so i need to be ready with ideas and facts etc. Thank you in advance for the help. I will pick best answer :)
