I have two cockatiels: one pearl and one pied type, which are both about 3 or 4 years old. I know the pied one is a female (it layed 3 eggs so far), but I am not sure if the other one is a male or female. Anyway, last week I found the pearl cockatiel behind a wardrobe, which is about 3 inches away from the wall. He/she was standing there next to the first egg I have seen from them. I have no idea how long it has been there, but I shined a light on it to see if there was anything in it. It was completely empty and clear. I bought them a nest box and a nest, which I put inside their cage. Because the wardrobe was too far from their cage and food, I moved the egg into the nestbox, and provided them with cotton balls and tissue paper outside of the nest box, so they could rearrange it however they want. Since then, they have not touched any of it, and they just ignore the egg. This morning, the female layed another egg in the corner of the cage, which is surrounded by one side of the nest box, and piles of cotton and tissues. I then moved the first egg from the nest box to next to the second egg in the corner. I still have not seen them sit on or have anything to do with either of the two eggs, ever since I moved the first one from behind the wardrobe. Even when I reach to touch the eggs, they don’t show any type of aggresiveness toward me. about 5 hours later, a third egg was laid. This time it was outside of the cage, and next to a woven basket, which is close to their cage. I decided to leave that egg their for now, but still, the birds are paying no attention to the eggs- even the new ones. I noticed the female makes light but unusual breathing noises once in a while. I am mostly concerned about my bird’s condition after laying eggs, and I am sure there will be more. I provided enough food and extra calcium also. So, what should I do with, and where should I put each of the three eggs? What should I do if neither of the birds sit on them or pay attention to them? Or if they lay more? Any advice for the health of the female? HELP ME PLEASE!! THANK YOU…
Oh, and they would not go into the nest box or use the nest.
