How do I keep large black birds away from my bird feeders?

I have bird feeders in my yard to feed the tiny little birds that fly about, especially this time of year when it’s really cold. The problem I am having is that there are alot of crow / black birds in our area and they are absolutely relentless when it comes to the bird feeders. I really don’t care for these black birds at all. They eat or destroy all the food for the little birds in a short amount of time. Does any one have a sensible solution to this bird problem, besides shooting the black birds. We have plenty of woods and fields for these black birds to hang out in….Not my bird feeders!

What to Feed A Lovebird?

I was wondering if it would ne ok to use a cockateil seed mix as a base? This is very readily available in my area. I know that they are small parrots type birds and the fresh fruits and veggies are a must, but I need to know a good seed base food for them.

Bird Stores In My Area?

Dear Yahoo! Answers Members,

Hi, I have been looking for a store that mainly sells things for birds. Such as food, cages, treats, calcium enrichment, perches, and other medical things for my birds.

The local pet shops around me are selling very bad things for birds. I was looking at a large parakeet cage, and it said that it has large amounts of zinc and lead in it! also, their bird food isn’t very good, like my birds look thinner. The treats have also gain price in a bad way, too. They are also selling cardboard nest boxes! Everything is so wrong for birds.

This one lady had a beautiful Ring Necked parakeet, and they person who was in charge of nail/wing clipping cut both the Blood Feather and the Kwik! Thankfully, I had corn starch on me (I always have this when at pet stores,) and I clipped the bird’s wings properly and saved it’s life.

I do not want to report this, because what would happen to the other pet owners in my area? Where would they go to get their animal supplies?

I live in Middletown, Ohio and I was wondering if there was a bird store around my area. I do not need to get a pet bird, just the supplies.

I don’t buy products online.
Also, I have two parakeets (budgies) and two cockatiels (Normal Grey), I don’t want stores for Macaws, or anything like that.

Breeding cages or nest boxes in flight area ?

Can anyone advise me on which is best,
1) nest boxes in the flight area allowing my 2 sets of birds to just have a “free for all” attitude or
2) put them 2 sets into their own private breeding cage and let them get on with it.
I have had 2 answers from bird loving friends but one said colony breeding with nest boxes and the other said hand picked certain birds in private quarters. I am so confused now HELP…

Need to find rental by 11-14-06 for the Magnolia or Tomball, TX area.?

Either 2-1. 2-2, 3-1, 3-2. Home or mobile. We prefer rural area. 650 – 800 month. Also, considering Plantersville, Porter, New Caney and Cleveland, TX areas. Pets okay-2 declawed inside cats. Fully box trained. They are therapy cats. Has to be fully electric. Gas is not good for family with asthma problems. Acerage doesn’t matter and we love to do yard work and planting bushes and flowers. Love to feed birds and other wildlife that comes thru with rural living.

What can I do about my neighbors – they feed the birds by dumping 50 pounds of birdfood on the ground?

I like feeding wildlife too, don’t get me wrong but his pile of seeds attracts pigeons, squirrels, rats and who knows what else. When the seeds get rotten, he hoses the whole mess down and it floods my yard! Oh yes, we live in a big city, not a rural area.

Right now there are over 30 pigeons out on the electric and phone wires and they are making a mess on everything.

How did this rat die?

The other day I found a dead rat lying in my backyard on a concrete step. It was next to the basement door which is not underground. There have been a number of rodents digging around this area. There is a tunnel going under the house, and somthing dug under the door. one neighbor has horses and the other feeds the birds by throwing seed on the ground.
What may have killed the rat? It was intact and I didn’t see any wounds
What can I do about the rodents?
