1. Basking sharks swim close to the surface of the water and appear to be sunning themselves like lizards. In fact, however, they are feeding on plankton. Why might a land-dwelling creature like a lizard need to sun itself, while a water-dwelling creature like a shark does not?
2. Flying foxes, the largest bats, have a wingspan of about 5 feet. The albatross, one of the largest flying birds, has a wingspan of 11 1/2 feet. Why do you think flying birds can be so much larger than flying bats? (Hint: mention at least one adaption for flying which birds have and bats lack.)
