They are both about 3 years old, i figured out that one is a male and one is a female (based on cheek color/social actions) I found an egg at the corner of the cage like 20 minutes ago, and the bird that was a bit aggressive, had bright cheek spots, and was very noisy (which i learned is the male) is sitting on the egg, and the calm, more dull colored cheek spots, (female) is sitting on a perch in the cage. Im pretty sure its fertilized, since theres a male and female in the cage, but idk. What do i do?? I would love to be a grandma of a baby bird
Should i put a nest box or paper shreddings in the corner with the egg? Can i touch the egg or will the parents stop caring for it if i do? How do i put the egg on the nestbox/paper shreddings?? What should i start feeding them? I’m a horse expert not a bird expert D:
if i sit in front of the cage and watch, the bird that has been sitting on the egg (supposedly the male) first goes to the center of the cage, looks up at the other bird (supposedly the female) then attempts to get near her, but when he gets close he shows aggression. but the bird who has been laying on the egg shows all the signs of being a male, but i see that it looks like he’s the one who laid the egg because his lower stomach is fat, or it may just be the feathers fluffed up.
also, when if i get a nesting box, should i put it inside the cage? or outside the cage with a little tunnel connecting to it? My dad’s friend’s daughter (sorry long relation there lol) had a cage and a tunnel connecting to a nesting box, is it better that way or just a nesting box inside the cage?-
sad news, when i checked on the egg it was cracked open because daddy squeezed him between the bars at the bottom of the cage. i died a little bit on the inside when i had to take out the egg and see the yoke dripping out
are they going to continue breeding? Was that even a fertile egg?
just a small question, why must i take the baby birds from the parents and put them in a brooder? wouldnt that make them strangers to their parents? sorry for all the questions, when it comes to bird breeding i’m retarded lol
