I used to get literally hundreds of birds in the course of a week (sparrows, starlings, blackbirds, wrens, thrushs, robins) … now virtually nome… I have put bread, nuts, seed etc out… nothing… where have they gone????

I have a fear of birds (laugh if you want but its serious!) and my horrid neighbour always puts food out for the birds, not a proper feeder just stale bread and rotten fruit. She says its for her kids benifit but we live in a lovely town with a river with lots of ducks and swans surely the kid would prefer going for a walk and feeding the ducks than standing at the window watching crows and seagulls fighting over scraps!
It really freaks me out and I also worry about the fact stale food is left lying for days attracting all types of vermon! I read about someone getting an ASBO for feeding birds – think I could do that?

I just got lovebirds not long ago and i feed them dry bread anf letuce and of coarse their seed diet.
But i want to give them something new. This might sound stupid but i want to make a “cook book” i guess you can call it for my birds. I have a few recipies from the internet but always looking for more.
Also if someone may email and teach me a little about love birds. tell me what you do for your birds and how they/it reacts to it. This would be apreciated.

Well I saw this little baby bird fall out of its nest and the mother made no move to get it, so after about 10 minutes I just picked the bird up and took it home with me. I’ve been feeding it little bits of bread soaked in sugarwater and hard boiled egg yolk, and she seems to like it. I have made a little nest out of tissue paper in a container and put it in a big box. She’s sleeping alot… but I don’t know what to do with her! Its definitly not a Robin. :/ It looks nothing like one!! And it would have absolutely no reason to be in the area, Robins just aren’t native to my area. So if anyone else has a sensible answer, please help. And as for the food situation, I followed instructions from a website that really seemed to know what they were doing. And she’s been with me for 5 hours and she is actually seeming to get a little stronger, she’s chirping and moving around alot. But she’s also sleeping alot. And as to the “You should have left her there” thing, she would have frozen to death or been stepped on or kille as some mean joke. I found her by a highschool, in a place where it always rains and snows and its always cold. I don’t think the parents were even there!
Oh and also, she was found in the middle of a walkway. And yeah, I think she might be a sparrow :]

mine was when my family and me went to the beach and we decided to feed the seagulls with pieces of bread and stuff suddenly plop!!!! bird poop all over my face … i started screaming , everyone around just looked at me like i was hystrical, or crazy … and the wrost part was that we didnt have anything to clean with except BREAD, and that’s what we did!!!!!
