Tiny white ant-like things in my bird’s wood nest box?!?

So today I was doing a full washing of my bird’s cage and all their perches and etc. I opened the nest box and noticed this kind of straight line cut across one of the walls. It was VERY straight and at first I had no idea how it got there. There were like tiny shreds of wood at the floor of the nest too. Then I looked closer and I saw a few (maybe 5, didn’t want to look more cuz they’re so gross) tiny white ant-like bugs crawling around. They weren’t crawling through that straight cut/indentation though…they were just..crawling around…maybe there were more in some kinda tunnel they made inside (I didn’t find a tunnel…don’t want to) but anyways are they termites? They were like 1/3 the size of a regular ant. And they were like white-ish gray-ish in color…so I freaked out and threw out the box. If they are termites, how’d they get there? My birds are always inside…and I don’t have little white termites crawling around my house. Also…since they were inside the wood box should I throw out all the wood perches? I didn’t see ANYTHING crawling around on those but if they ARE termites, would they be in there too?

Do termites do any harm to parakeets? If no, it’s not like I won’t care I’ll still throw everything out (I DO NOT NEGLECT MY PETS) but is there anything I should worry about for the health of my birds?

Thank you.
Thanks to the first three answerers (only ones so far).

Are there any signs that my birds are affected by mites? Like do they have any symptoms or anything?

How old is the featherless, baby bird we found abandoned?

The baby bird was found by my two little ones. We gently scooped it up and put it in a shoe box with some towels since it has no feathers to keep it warm. I did some research and have been feeding “it” chopped up egg yolk (hard) and a few bugs for protein and placing it (via toothpick) in the back of it’s throat. Evidently, according to what I have read, the baby birds need to eat every 20-30 minutes.
The baby has nearly NO feathers and it’s wings look skeletal. Besides what we are doing, we are clueless as to the age. No sign of a nest or other birds. The kids found it next to the bottom of our large trash can on the side of the house. It was shivering….it has eaten a bit; however, it takes it in, lies there with it’s eyes closed the whole time. It’s tried to open it’s eyes a couple times.
Please help us if you have any knowledge whatsoever. The origin is unknown, buy basing it on the birds around I would predict it is a robin or similiar.

Does anyone know how to wean a baby mocking bird, and what it eats?

I am trying to wean a baby mockingbird that I found a few weeks ago.I’m feeding it baby bird formula and bugs. I would like for it not to depend on me to sick something in it mouth for every meal, and eat on its own.

How do I keep bugs out of my birdseed?

At night, hundreds of beetle like bugs come onto my deck to feed on the scattered birdseed – is there anything that can be done to rid my backyard of the bugs that is still safe for the birds?

baby bird found?

While vacationing in Central Wisconsin I found a baby bird floating in the lake, about 100 yards from shore. It is NOT a water bird. I picked it up and brought it inside, wrapped it in towels and dried it off. I didn’t think it’d make it, but it’s doing okay. It has all of its feathers but still cannot fly. I’m feeding it a combination of wet dog food, sow bugs, moths, crickets, maggots. The thing eats anything. My question is what kind of bird is it? I’m a seasoned bird watcher but this one has confounded me. It’s about 4 inches, no tail feathers, charcoal grey back, grey belly. Beak is like a starling (not yellow though, just the shape). It constantly squawks. Non-stop, only at night when he puts his head under his wing to sleep does it stop squawking. Any ornithologists out there who can help me figure out what the heck this thing is?
