Long story short: I had male and female cockatiels that were mating periodically, but were not a bonded pair. The nestbox was there, but male didn’t let her inside (b/c they weren’t bonded). He was being too aggressive to her in the cage, so we finally sold him. About a week later, the female is comfortable with entering nesting box, and lays an egg, and probably more coming soon (my mistake, should have taken off the nesting box right away.)
So now the situation: since we only sold the male about a week ago, her eggs MIGHT be fertile. Question is, if eggs will indeed be fertile, can the female cockatiel take care of the eggs and chicks by herself? Or is the male 100% required to help?
Any suggestions and tips on what to do would be helpful.
