I’ve put it in a shoe box with a makeshift nest and covered it with a glove for now. Its prolly only a couple of days old; it hasn’t opened it’s eyes and doesn’t hardly have any feathers.

My dog was barking outside and would not stop! I went outside to look and it was a baby bird! Me and my mom put him in a box. He can’t fly yet but has feathers and hops around trying to fly. Soon he fell asleep in the box. My step-dad is going to be home soon and we are going to put him back in the nest. Do you think his mom may have left him? What things should we give him to keep him alive for a couple more hours?
Hey! I’m getting two rats in a couple of days and I’m getting their cage ready for them. And I want to put some fun things in there so they wont get bored. What are some fun things I can use? So far I have a bird ladder to reach to the 2nd floor that I made which has a hammock up there so they can sleep. And I have a nesting box with a soft bed inside of that. And I have a rope that they can climb. What else can I use?

We recently added a thistle feeder to our other feeder, but after a couple of weeks no birds have touched it. With our other feeders, the birds started feeding within a few days.
I’m wondering if the problem is the thistle seed we filled the new one with. The ad suggests this.
Does anyone have any experience w/thistle seed for N.C. birds?
Thanks for any advice!
Alan
P.S. — Here is the feeder in question (long link!):

I origanally bought for parakeets, two boys and two girls. At least thats what i thought. Now a little less than a year later the two who I thought were grls started interaacting more. the one’spiece of skin above the beak was pink and the other one’s has always been a rough, crusty tanish coulor. Now a couple aof days ago the one with the pink beak’s beak has started to turn a blueish coulor and the one with the crusty tan beak is starting to get a round belly about the size of half of a chicken egg rght above her legs and she is really lazy and just eats and drinks unless she’s with the other bird then she’s happy. They do a lot of mouth to mouth but im not shure if they’re feeding each other. I want to add on to the cage and make it even bigger than it is now and put a nesting box in that, but im not sure what to do, i hope that someone out there can give me few answers and tips. Thank you. An if you can send me anything that can help me with this my e-mail is tbone1995mb@gmail.com

We were doing some yard work at our rental property and found a couple of the baby birds from the nest on the back porch, dead, on the ground. I took a look in the nest and saw two more dead. We went to throw the nest out (it really smelled) and my boyfriend noticed one of the birds was still alive. We pulled him out and put him in a box with towels. We were sure he wasn’t going to live but couldn’t just leave him there.
Now he’s doing great! He’s eating every 20 minutes and preening himself. I’m not quite sure how old he is but he has quite a few feathers, some still in the little case surrounding them. He will perch on my gloved finger and hop around inside his box, but when I put live worms in front of him he won’t even try to get them. He will only eat if I feed him by hand.
Any suggestions on how to teach him to forage for food, and when the time comes, fly?
Professionals or very knowleadgeable bird people only, please.
I should have mentioned, I have left three messages with the wildlife rehabilitation refuge here in Calgary, no calls back yet. I do hope they take the bird but would like to be prepared to care for the bird as best I can until then.
