Kesttrels Challenge Nesting Rock Dove

March 30, 2009: The Rock Doves have settled into the nest box. Last year, the nest box was used by the kestrels, and when they left, the Rock Doves moved in. Now both couples view the nest box as their own. The male Kestrel arrives at dawn to warn the nesting Rock Dove. Then the female, who is larger than the male, arrives. The Rock Dove’s defense is to snap her wings at the intruders. This goes on for some time, with the Kestrels taking turns. Finally Rock Dove Dad arrives, only to immediately fly away. The end of the video shows the male Kestrel, who has brought courting gifts of voles to the female over the last few weeks. The Kestrels have a long nesting period, so perhaps they will move in after the baby Rock Doves hatch and fledge. But the clock is ticking, and the Kestrels need to find a nest box or other location by May… Watch the drama at this site: www.beleefdelente.nl Nest boxes are in great demand: www.HancockWildLifeChannel.org

A baby Mourning Dove Help!!?

So I found a baby mourning dove that is about 3-5Wks of age. Some children where messing with it and i saved it. Good thing it was not severely hurt, just maybe minor bruises but all is fine^^ Uhm..i wasn’t sure where the baby bird came from, I did search for its nest but did not find it so i took it home with me. i bought some Exact baby bird food and a small syringe to feed it, and placed it in a box covered to warm it up, and calm it down from the shock.
One thing i need to understand is how much of the Exact baby bird food do i need to feed it and every how many hours???

heres a pick on how it looks exactly like!!

Feeding baby dove

Here is a baby dove I raised after a hawk got it’s mother.

Morning Dove on my sidewalk?

Last night my husband found a baby morning dove on our front patio. We put it back in the nest but the parent birds flew off and didn’t return until this morning. I put the baby in a box on a heating pad for the night and returned it to the nest this morning. To my surprise there was another baby on top of some bushes by my front door and one of the parents was there pretending to have a broken wing.

Later I checked on the nest and the baby I returned to the nest was on the patio again. An hour later both babies are under one of the parent birds in the middle of my sidewalk.

This isn’t a safe place. I live near an open space with snakes and many feral cats. Is there a way to get them all some place safer?
Thanks for the answers. I can’t move them to my back yard because I have two dogs. I have put up a sign asking people not to use the sidewalk up to my front door. The babies are under a bush with one of the parents. I will hope for the best.
