i was wanting to know if there was a feed that i could feed doves and other birds would not like to eat it. i?

want to be able to feed the doves and not draw black birds because of that bird disease that is going around. my father in law had that disease from birds. thanks!

Other than a partridge in a pear tree, what else can I give my true love on the First Day of Christmas?

My other question is: Why are there so many dang birds being given during the 12 Days of Christmas? I mean, swans, geese, calling birds, French hens, turtle doves, a partridge…Give me a break! Who wants to feed all those birds? Isn’t the chance of catching bird flu a little greater, with all those birds hanging around?

As for the maids a-milking, wouldn’t you have to give the cows to go along with that, so that the maids a-milking have something to milk? Or is it the maids themselves who are lactating?

What about the lords a-leaping? What are they leaping to, their deaths?

Drummers drumming and pipers piping–kinda loud, isn’t it? And wouldn’t you need a big house to keep all those drummers, pipers, dancing ladies and milking maids? Would they all need their own bedrooms? And what about bathroom time? I didn’t include the lords a-leaping in this, because they all lept to their deaths.

So, anyway, if I HAVE to give a partridge in a pear tree, is Danny Bonduce available?

Extremely important question about mourning doves.. please help??

Okay, so my problem is I have a baby mourning dove living on my railing downstairs, and I don’t have a problem with this, it’s just that he only ended up there this morning, and the mum has been here twice today to feed it, and it’s great, but my concern is that, we have a lot of stray cats in the neighbourhood, and I know come night fall he will be a goner. Is there anyway I can safely move him to my second floor balcony, where he will be safe, without upsetting his mum, or her not being able to find him, and of course me not getting hurt. Please help I don’t know much about birds but I do know I love mourning doves.
He is right on my railing I have gone in and out of my front door a dozen times today and he hasn’t flown away I think he is too young to fly, and I know at least enough that I can’t let me smell get on him, but I really don’t want to see him die :( There must be some way, especially being that I’ve been less than a foot from him quite a few times and been able to go out my front door with the mum there and she’s not done a thing to me, and she keeps coming back, should I wear gloves, or can I get him to walk into a box or something.
Also, as far as numbers go and getting people to help I am in Ontario, Canada, if anyone knows of a good service for that please tell me.
SO COOL!!! okay so I was going to move him, and I went downstairs and I was waiting because the mum was there and then I see the baby try and move his wings and he couldn’t fly, and I stood there for 10 minutes watching him try and then all of a sudden he just managed to raise up off the railing, he flew to my neighbour’s tree before stopping, it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Thanks for all your help guys.

Handfeeding Nestling Morning Doves?

I rehab for our county wildlife sanctuary. I have done alot of different types of birds, but never a morning dove. I got one yesterday. It is a nestling, but near fledgeling. They gave me a curved tip syringe to feed it with, but this method really stresses out the bird and is difficult to do. I am trying the “hole in the dixie cup” filled with slurry method. This seems to be working. Can anyone tell me what the consistancy of the slurry should be? I have it slighty more runny than what Elmer’s white glue would be. I have no idea what its supposed to be. My rehab book doesn’t say.

Also, if there is another method to try feeding it with, please let me know. I can’t hardly tell if its eating enough. I will weigh the bird today, but since I just got it yesterday, it will be hard to gauge if its eating enough or not. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
It seeems people are missing the point of the question. I don’t want to use the syringe. I am using a cup with a hole in the side that the bird puts its beak into. What consistancy should that slurry be and are there any other methods besides the syringe or cup that can be used. I can’t simply spit in the birds mouth because first of all, that’s wierd/gross and second of all morning doves to not Gape for food.
