Do sulphur crested cockatoos Molt?

I’ve only had this bird for 6 weeks. She seems happy, lots of toys to play with, but of course she prefers the cordless phone and T.V remote! No, I don’t let her have them. I feed a dry parrot food, mixed nuts and dried fruit, and fresh fruit and vegetables. I haven’t found any big feathers, just the downy ones, but there seem to be a lot of them. There aren’t any bare spots, but she looks a little ragged. I see her grooming lots, but I’ve never actually seen her pull out a feather. If she flaps her wings a feather or two will fall out. Any advice you can give me will be very appreciated.

Birds at the feeder: it’s all about pecking order

I found it really interesting to watch the inter-species interaction at my bird feeder. It turns out size isn’t everything. I recommend watching this full-screen with your sound up. This is another video shot with my Canon HF200 high-def camcorder, equipped with Canon’s DM-100 stereo microphone. Editing software: AVS4You’s Video Editor. I downloaded the individual bird calls at www.eNature.com.

Woodpecker — injured juvenile downy woodpecker?

We have an injured juvenile downy woodpecker and have made several calls to local avian vets, rehab facilities and wildlife sanctuaries. Thus far, no response. While I still hope to hear back from someone knowledgeable who can take him, what do we do if they don’t? He has an injured wing, but otherwise is in good spirits. If he survives his injury, but can not fly, what are the odds that we can raise him in captivity? We have managed to feed him a couple of mealworms, but after that….? Has anyone else done this or had experience with this kind of bird? Thank you in advance.
