Merlin Hawk in Wisconsin?

During the winter, feeding the little song birds, a family of 3 bunnies and a possum is so enjoyable here in Wisconsin. BUT we have a merlin hawk taking advantage of our generosity, like we are feeding/baiting them for his killing convienence. He has killed one of our cats and attacked 2 others, many little birds and bunnies have fallen victim to this lazy killer. It has swooped at my husband in the driveway and at that point, signed it’s death warrant! I have called the DNR, they are protected, to a point. I have put out plastic owls and rotate them periodically, shiny things array the yard, whenever we get sunshine, they sparkle. It is full blown winter here and food is scarce for the birds who are use to feeding at our feeders~now and all year long. I can not just stop feeding them. I have bought a pellet gun and would love to blow that killer away but, by the time I spot him, open the door and take aim from the hip….he is airborn. What else can I do?It is a daily event.

House-sitting guest …?

What is the general rule of etiquette in regards to a friend or family member you want to have house sit for you (1month). Do you reward them monetarily? If so, what is an adequate amount? They would be staying the house full-time and feeding a dog and 2 birds.

My family has neglected our turtle for years, help!?

It makes me extremely sad to talk about this, my turtle has been in my family longer than I have. My turtle is about 23 years old and for the past recent years it’s been in awful shape and very neglected. We leave the turtle in a corner and sometimes forget to feed it, but its still alive. I am very ashamed and I realized how much that turtle has been part of my life. I saw baby turtles the other day in the street and now I want to change how my turtle has been living, so i have a few questions…
are there vets that will see turtles or is that stupid? I know there is vets for like cats, dogs and birds but never have I seen a turtle at a vet. My turtle’s water become extremely dirty in a matter of hours after bathing it, is there anything i can do about that? Should I get my turtle a heating light? Never have we used it before and my turtle continues to live, is it necessary at this point?
thanks! and also are there any tips that I can do take care of it?
and yes, my turtle is an red eared slider. my turtle is the size about a regular plate now and has a hard time turning in its tank, how big should i have the tank be…

and as for people saying to walk the turtle…thanks that is great advice but my turtle bites and has the longest claws! i have never actually touched it other than its shell and my parents usually clean it…should i still let it loose in the house? and as for having other turtle friends, is it okay to put baby turtles in with this huge one? thanks so much guys i love the information and advice i’m getting!

What can I do with bird family living in roof?

Six weeks ago, a pigeon began nesting in my roof. I attended to the bird, bringing it food every day… A month ago, my wife found out about the bird and went mad, telling me that it had to go, or she would throw me out.

I pretended that I had got rid of the bird, but really, I let it stay and even built it a nesting box. Two weeks ago, its eggs hatched and there are now 4 chicks and their mother living in my roof. The father occasionally turns up and there is a lot of squawking which I find difficult to explain to my wife.

My wife would kill me or at least leave me if she found out, I simply can’t bear to lose the bird family, we’ve gotten so close. What do I do?

TTC’ers, want to see some sweet pictures?

So I had to share these adorable pictures with my TTC family. I was nesting (appropriate choice of words) a week or so ago when the weather really started turning nice. I bought and planted flowers in my window boxes and have been merrily watering them and tending to them when one day I noticed the beginnings of a bird’s nest. Don’t you know, some little lady chose my window box as the appropriate place to bring her babies into the world!? I am, perhaps ridiculously, seeing this as a sign that fertility is in fact in my future! I had to share the progression of this nest with you and I hope the link below works. This morning, when my DH left for work, he went out the side door as usual and she was in the nest (first time she let us see her!) and flew away. When he came home later for some supplies, he used the front door so as to not scare her again! Cute, huh? Hope you enjoy the pictures. :)

I just checked and there’s an egg in the nest!! I’m going to try to add the picture to the ones already there so check back!

Here’s the new link with the picture of the egg.

Do you have to recycle the dead if a will specifies this?

My nan who recently passed over onto the other side has caused uproar in the family by insisting, in her will, that her body is recycled. Not organ donation, which wouldnt be so bad,but something quite macabre. She has left implicit instructions that we feed her to the creatures at the local Bird of Prey park. This is causing our family great distress. She was 83 when she died-just in case that helps.
