I found a sparrow that can’t fly?

I’ve been feeding him/her millet. The bird rolls over occasionally and doesn’t seem to flap his wings. Any Ideas on how to help this little one?
The bird looks big enough to fly. The bird was on the ground at the school where my wife teaches for a couple of days before the students brought the bird to my wife. He jumps around quite a bit (I have the little guy in a box with water and shredded paper). In addition to the millet (which I just removed from the box, based on your kind responses) I fed him ‘extra’ bird formula that I mix with some water and feed with a syringe). It’s daylight now so I have the box opened out on the porch). I did the same thing yesterday, bringing the box & bird in after the sun had set). I’m having trouble finding a bird sanctuary where I live near Pasadena California, so if anyone know of a place I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Stoke

Why is my male parakeet flapping his wings but not flying?

By plus others i mean other things.. Im playing a favorite song and suddenly i hear flapping so i look at my birds (he has a girlfriend but they’ve never mated) and hes sitting on his wood perch (its a dangeling twisted branch that reachs the bottom of the cage) and he was makeing his wings flap like crazy but not flying.. he cant fly (wings clipped). then directly after he started kissing the female (parakeet kisses lol) and then he went to the regular perch behind the perch the females on (2 perchs) and started bobbing his head and jumping back and forth kissing the female then back to his regular perch and it was weird and now hes biteing the wood perch… hes never done it before.. i type this while im watching them so yeah now hes regurgitating again :l whats he doing… and they do have a nest box

Handfeeding Baby Parrotlet?

Hi. I have a baby parrotlet I had to pull on day 1 because the parents did not feed their chicks. It is now two weeks old and suddenly decided it will not eat. The formula is at the right temp, I know how to handfeed, I’ve bred lovebirds for years. This is my first parrotlet chick. Any advice? I can’t find anything on the internet. Also, maybe parrotlet seems to have some physical difficulties. He can move both legs and wings but only seems to actually utilize one side. It worries me. I’ve tried putting him in a smaller cup to force him to stand but he’ll still flip over, lay on his back and flap one little wing. Can birds be handicapped? None of his parent’s other chicks have survived (out of two clutches. Not a good rate and they have been separated.) He seems healthy. I just want to fix any problem before it goes too far. Thanks.

I found a bird, help?

I was outside trying to get the coffee cup that rolled under my car when I noticed a little bird. I thought it was odd that she didn’t fly away, and soon discovered that she was unable to fly. She can flap her wings, but she can’t get more than two feet off the ground, and not for more than a few seconds. I couldn’t find a nest nearby, so I brought her in the house. She’s in a box with some water. I’m unsure of what to do in order to take care of her, does anyone have suggestions on what I could do to take care of her, or a place I could take here where she could be properly cared for?

Info about nestboxes?

This probably seems a really silly question, but which way do i put the concave in our birds nest box next year. Obviously with the dip facing up but where exactly does the dip go ? by the small hole mum goes in and out of or by the flap that i will look through. I am worried the chicks might fall out or get trodden on by mum.

Baby Tree Swallow out of nestbox, on the ground but not flying…?

I posted here because I know many who garden put out nest boxes. These babies should be ready to go, there is one perched half way out of the box. The parents keep coming around, but one baby is on the ground hopping forward and trying to take off, but can’t. He spreads his wings and tries to flap them but then just tips forward. When the parents bring him something to eat, he flaps his wings very hard and fast to have them bring him food, so I don’t think he has a broken wing. I’m not sure if he was pushed out by another or tried to take off and fell out. I just noticed this about 1/2 hour ago.

Has anyone had this happen to them if you use nest boxes? I’ve had tree swallows and blue birds for the past four years and never had this.
