parakeet breeding question!?

My two parakeets are spending A LOT of time in their nesting box. When they do come out, they usually stay right in front of it and don’t move. And, they both go in there together. Sometimes the female will poke her head out of the box and then go back in. If one bird goes out, the other one stays in the nest box, and if the other doesn’t come back in, then it will eventually come out. This has been going on for a few days now, and I’m wondering what’s going on in there. Why are they in there together? If there were eggs, wouldn’t the female be laying on them by herself in the nest box? I don’t know for sure if there are eggs, I haven’t seen them actually mate, but I see all the signs of the mating process. I.e. – feeding, preening, all that. They never leave each others side. I’m just wondering why they are in there together. Also, can the male lay on the eggs too? I know I just asked a lot of questions, but I’m just curious. I don’t want to check on the eggs because I’m scared I will scare them away from the nest.

Help – What to do with a broken Swallows Nest and Baby Birds?

Urgent Help needed. A nest with baby swallows has broken at the front of my house. The babies have feathers – I think they are fleglings. The parents are very distressed and were flying around for a while but I can’t see them now. I put the babies in a box on a windowsill as close to the place where the nest is as possible but will the parent recognise them. Should I put the babies on the ground outside. I’ve gone around all the websites I can and the information is mostly about baby birds falling out of nests. This nest has broken so what should I do????

Potty training question?

My 4 month old pomeranian does NOT like to go in front of me! She also does not like to eat in front of me. This has made it impossible to potty train her, because she only eats alot of food if she’s in her crate, and since she will hold her potty until I leave, she usually pottys in her crate.

This morning was typical. I played with her for a few minutes, put her on her potty pads for about 10 minutes… fed her (she didn’t eat much)…and then had to leave the room to feed the birds, so I put her and her food dish in her crate. She POOPED in those 3 minutes IN her crate!!

What should I do? What am I doing wrong? I am SO fusterated!

continued on the noisy pair parakeets.?

I guess I should have given you more info. I have had these birds for a year probably. The never used to act like this. The female has also been acting up going inside her nesting box. And actually they seem to want me to cover them uo. They are not singing to me. They actually when I uncover them throw a fit. they get on the front of the gage and direct their dis pleasure right at me until I cover them again. i wish they were singing…But the squawking they are doing is in a very mad tone. Just as soon as I put th cover back on they are peaceful again. I love my birds and enjoyed them up until they started this. I hope with this you may have even better answers.

Can white rice kill backyard birds if so i need asap answer.?

I have a large front & backyard that sits on a corner. I have birds
that come around and feed. Some are your usual type birds,
others are some wildlife type. My question is that the last couple
of mornings i have been finding small piles of white rice around
the area of my fence line. I know its for the birds i feed. I’m
wondering if the rice can be treated with some kind of poison
chemical. I heard there was some kind of poison that looks
loke rice but i never haerd it of it before til now. I know my
nieghbor or two are up to this, and if they are i want to know is
there any legal action that can be done to stop them. We have
a on going all out war with these people and we don’t even
talk to them. I really could use some help on this matter. I’m
afraid i might find some dead birds in the yard and i couldn’t
handle that. I’m to much of a wildlife person as well as animals.
Serious replies only, Please.

Where to place a marble Bird Bath, front or backyard? Does the bird feed have to be close to it?

Will my cockatiel eggs hatch?

2 out of my 3 cockatiels started laying eggs. I have 2 females and a male. One of the females is alone, and the two others are together (they are brother and sister). I wasn’t expecting the eggs to hatch, but the brother and sister managed to knock one of the eggs out of their nesting box. (It’s not a real nesting box, it’s just a cardboard box with a hole in the front.) When I was looking at it I held it up to the sunlight (very briefly of course, so I didn’t get a really good look at it) and I could see something in it. It was almost as big as the egg but not quite. It looked pink from what I could see. Could this have been a baby bird? Or was it just an unfertilized yolk? They laid the eggs around late April or early May. I am not sure about the brother and sisters eggs, but I know that the female bird that is alone eggs won’t hatch because the male hasn’t been anywhere near those eggs. I just didn’t want to take the eggs away because they seem to like sitting on them and I didn’t want them to lay more. I know how much calcium it takes from their little bodies. They eat special food with calcium vitamins in it. If they are going to hatch, when will they hatch?

~Thanks~
