We have a cockatiel that we recently adopted by virtue of its previous owners not wanting it anymore. I know that birds should be eating fresh fruits and veggies, but it seems that this little guy wants none of it. I’ve tried hand feeding it, and it seems scared of what I’m offering. I’ve tried leaving it in its cage and it wants nothing to do with it. Our other bird loves fruit, but this one just doesn’t seem interested. Any advice?

I fill my bird’s food dishes up to the top every morning. I have two African Grey Parrots. They pick at it and eat on it all day. They throw half of it out. My question is: Do you leave food out for parrots all day? Or do you pick the food up and give it to them on a schedule? If so, how often should I feed them? They are sooooooo messy with their food. They are on a pellet diet and that is what I have trouble with. I also switch out fruits and veggies and I will make them eggs, pasta, rice, etc. but they gobble that stuff up. It is the pellet food they like to play with and make a mess out of.
Oh, it also makes cleaning thier cage a mess. They poop all of the time and everywhere.

I was wondering if it would ne ok to use a cockateil seed mix as a base? This is very readily available in my area. I know that they are small parrots type birds and the fresh fruits and veggies are a must, but I need to know a good seed base food for them.

my aunt has an appr 7 month old TAG.. and he is still insistant on haveing 1 hand feeding of a morning and she is unsure as to why bc he gets pellets and fresh fruits and veggies?.. also she was told that he can have only 1 peanut a day.. is this true and if so why is that?? .. she raises blue and gold Macaws and not had this problem with them.. thanks in advance..
