my lovebirds laid 6 eggs and it has been over 30 days and they have not hatched. what should i do?

The eggs were laid in the nesting box we bought, plenty of nesting materials were provided and we have given the birds lots of good bird seed with nuts, fruits, etc. But it seems that we are beyond thenormal gestation period. the mother still protects the eggs and will not let anyone go into the nesting box, which is hanging in a corner of the larger cage. not sure how long before i declare the eggs officially infertile, and if so, what shoudl i then do with them?

When should I take the sliced apple out of my canary’s cage?

I just got a canary and today someone told me to feed it apples and some fruits and this stuff that looks like seed on a stick. Well I put it in the cage and he loves it. He has done nothing but eat it since we put it in there. My question or questions is: Is he eating to much? And when is the right time to take out the apple? Some websites say after 30 mins some say daily. I don’t want to do anything to hurt or kill my bird. He is also not singing much anymore. When I first got him he sung ever two hours and now he isn’t singing much. I have been hearing different things from different ppl and reading different things on websites. I just want to take good care of my bird. Any suggestions would be appriciated. Thanks so much!!

New Society Finch Owner! Help me!?

Hey everyone! I bought two society finches Friday. The gentleman said they were too young to know for sure what the sex was, but he believed he got a pair. *How old do you think they are. Stupid me forgot to ask* One of them sits and sings constantly while the other kinda squawks. I thought I read somewhere that the singer is the male? Is this true? I bought them finch food and a mite protection thing. When should I buy them a nesting box? I understand it’s necessary for breeding, but should I get one now?I have done a little research and learned they like fruits and veggies. I put park of a cellery stalk through the bars and they want nothing to do with it. Can anyone tell me about the fruits/veggies they prefer.
I had a parakeet in the past, so I know most birds need cuttle bones. Uh. That’s about all I know. Please don’t flame me for going in unprepared because I know. Lol.
I am basically looking for ANY information about my beautiful birds. I hope to have them a long time.

Raising Baby Parakeets?

we decided a month ago to let a pair or our parakeets hatch their own eggs out, after a lot of research and stuff. It was her first time, so the eggs never hatched. Then, we took a different pair, who had already bonded, and put them in a separate cage. Toddra, the female parakeet, sat on the eggs and barely got off. Her nest box is a wooden box with 1 hole and a cover that lifts up. A few days ago, I found out some exciting news; one baby chick had hatched! It had hatched a day or two ago, without anyone knowing. Toddra has been sitting on the small, bald chick. It was peeping a lot, so it’s strong and seems healthy. Toddra is fed seeds, a formulated egg diet for extra protein and calcium, and some veggies and fruits, such as apples and celery. So since the mother is feeding the chick, it’s getting a pretty healthy diet. My question is, do we just let Toddra take care of the chick until it’s old enough to leave the nest? If so, at what age is it old enough to live on its own(such as eating solid foods, drinking water, etc.)? Some people take them at 10 weeks and they feed them a special baby bird formula, but we don’t have the time to feed the chick 4x a day. Toddra and the father seem to be taking good care of the chick, so we aren’t really worried about her not feeding it or something like that. Any info on baby parakeets would be great!(not for raising them ourselves, but for knowing when they can live on their own and stuff like that) Thanks!

Great food for Cockatiels?

I feed my cockatiel actual ‘bird food’ but i’d like to feed her other things like fruits of veggies. I know that greens are especially good but i’d like to try other things. (she doesn’t like lettuce or celery) I’m scared to give her something that might poison her! (some tree bark do poison birds)
