Yesterday one of my love birds laid her first egg. As I hadn’t been expecting this I hadn’t placed a nesting box on the cage. So I placed the egg on some hay in the cage until I had bought a nesting box and secured it. Since then she has been sitting in the box most of the time and the male bird joined her all the night. It seems they are doing the right things but because the egg was some hours unattended to at the beginning I’m worried that this egg has no hope. I’m waiting to see if she lays any further eggs over the next days. This is my first time with any birds’ eggs. How many days incubation do the eggs need and what is the best course of action if and when they hatch? I would like to do everything possible to help it or them survive and will appreciate any tips and advice.
