i have a female cockatiel about a year old and her feathers are abnormal?

her head is all fuffly and normal but then her body feathers are all tatty and she has been picking at her chest she is in a large aviary with two males one age of 7 years another age of 4 years and a female about 3 years she has constantly got fresh water and feed she is on the cockatiel mix no pellets but also she was a rescue bird she was handed on to me after being rescued from the jaws of a family puppy i really love my birds i NEED some help

Can someone please help???

We recently got a baby Cinnamon mutation Green Cheek Conure. She (dna’d) can be very sweet, and loves head rubs. But when you put your hands in her cage she screeches like she thinks she is a bird of prey (thats what it reminds me of anyhow). Is it cuz she is a baby (hatched on 11/21/06) or do they always act like this? I am hoping she (Mecca) will grow out of it with age. And they have some very sharp beaks so we get startled and pull our hands away. The avaiary we got her from said that she was well socialized, yet when she first perched on us there she was all nippy and stuff. So I am not sure how much socialization they did with her. I know avairies are very busy with all the hand feeding, so I am a bit disapointed that she is not more tame. We drove four hours to get her, and we can barely handle her. Any green cheek owners have the same problem, and how did you over come it??
Thanks a lot

Are my lovebirds getting ready for eggs?

My lovebirds have started to spend alot of time in their nest boxes, with the male mostly peeking his head out or standing on the perch just outisde. i havent seen them prepare a nest, and there is nothing in the box, so i wouldnt think they are. It has started getting hot here (im in qatar, mideast) so maybe they just want shade? i usually leave them outside to communicate with other bird types, they love it. but now they are just staying inside the box. even when i take them in at sunset, they still stay in the box. whats happening?
ive actually just seen them jump out and start chirping, i know its at the other birds, but now theyve went back in.

Why is my MALE lovebird being mean to the female?

I have two lovebirds. My male lovebird keeps on being mean to the female. Shaire (female) keeps on trying to go get food and Sunny (male) wont let her eat. he will start squawking at her and will peck at her or knock her off, and he will do the whole bow his head down and bring it UP saying that its his spot.
I am getting worried because i didn’t no that they do this.
Also i have a happy hut thing, and the birds wont get in it, how come?
Plus, i have a nesting box and both Sunny and Shaire wont touch it. I don’t know why. should it not be on the ground of the cage? Should i pin it up higher? and what should i put in it?

Will baby cockatiel starve or is he ok?

ok, so I have a momma and baby cockatiel. The baby is fully feathered, except for his head (looks like a vulture with yellow mohawk feathers on his head an orange cheeks!) anyhow, he walks around good and all, but the momma started laying infertile eggs (no mate) and I think she threw him out of the nest. I saw him eating a little bit, but I am scared he will die. I didn’t write down his hatch date, but I would say he is close to 2 months old, He was the only survivor of 5 and I would hate to see him die now. Do they eat less at that age? (he “gets out” of the box since yesterday but doesn’t know how to get back in, so I put him back)Since it seems he knows how to eat and I offer bread, seed and veggies, is that enough? Can he starve? Should I remove the infertile eggs to see if momma bird will tend to her baby again? What should I do?

is the bird a wild bird?

we feed the birds in our back yard every day. there are blue jays, cardinals, humming birds, etc. but there is this bird that has grayish-brown body with a big red mark on top of his head. is that a wild bird or somebody’s pet? is there any wild birds that have a red mark on their head? i live on long island(just to let you know about the location)

Is my bird dying? She is sitting oddly on her eggs.?

My lovebird layed 3 eggs. she does not have a mate or a nest box. She is sitting on the eggs with her head on floor of the cage, her wings slightly unfurled and her butt slightly raised. She did not do this the last time she laid eggs. Should I take the eggs out? IS she eggbound?
