My two parakeets are spending A LOT of time in their nesting box. When they do come out, they usually stay right in front of it and don’t move. And, they both go in there together. Sometimes the female will poke her head out of the box and then go back in. If one bird goes out, the other one stays in the nest box, and if the other doesn’t come back in, then it will eventually come out. This has been going on for a few days now, and I’m wondering what’s going on in there. Why are they in there together? If there were eggs, wouldn’t the female be laying on them by herself in the nest box? I don’t know for sure if there are eggs, I haven’t seen them actually mate, but I see all the signs of the mating process. I.e. – feeding, preening, all that. They never leave each others side. I’m just wondering why they are in there together. Also, can the male lay on the eggs too? I know I just asked a lot of questions, but I’m just curious. I don’t want to check on the eggs because I’m scared I will scare them away from the nest.
