How do I care for a baby bird?

While i was waiting for my mom to pick me up from youth group I found a baby bird with no feathers. It looked like it was recently hatched. I thought it was dead because it was on the steps on its back but when i touched it it moved. So I brought it home,(after i looked for the nest, not successful) and put it in a cardboard box on toilet paper under a heat lamp. That was Wednesday and it has now been 3 days and it is very frisky. I am feeding it small pieces of worms, but what else should i feed it? And what would b the best way to water it? From a syringe? Is there anything else i could do to help it grow and not die. I know baby birds are hard to hand raise and most die, but I wanna try. Please no mean comments or anything, only helpful tips. Thanks!
Rachael – it was getting dark and it is a tiny feather-less fledgling on concrete steps on its back. I doubt it’s mother was coming for it.
but don’t mothers feed them worms? And i can’t seem to find info on fledglings and what kind it is! :O
oops i meant hatching :)
do i use wet dog food or dry? is cat food alright to?

Black capped chickdee!?

i was walking in the forest behind my house about a week ago, and thats when i saw a bird stuck to some really sticky stuff. ( i have no idea what it was) it smelled bad and stuff so i took the bird home. The stickey stuff was all over the bird so i cut it’s wings( not off just trimmed them like you do with other birds so they can’t fly) because i couldn’t get the stuff of. Well i did that cleaned his feet gently and what not. He is doing fine in my spare cage. but i was reading on the internet that you can teach the these bird to hand feed from you is this true? And if so how do you do it? any info would be help full, and just for you to know i can’t relise him he can’t fly.
well it’s kinda too late now, this morning i woke up he’s dead so…… thx any way i guess.

Why did our feral baby bird died?

We picked up a feral baby bird that fell from his nest and took him home to feed, hoping that we can raise it until he reaches adulthood and then let him fly free. Unfortunately, this morning when we picked him up he died :(

Here’s some details:
My girlfriend and I went for a stroll at a nearby park and our dog found the bird. He seemed to have fell of one of the really tall trees (all bout 10m +) and can’t get back up to his nest. So we decided to take him home since there trees are way too high for us to get up (and there are also so many of them) and there are a lot of feral cats around (bad kittehs!!).

The bird is a generic bird you see around your house. He’s not a sparrow nor a crow, but he’s smaller than crow, black feathers and orange beak.

We took him home and then set up a simple home for him. It was late so we couldn’t get proper bird supplies. Therefore, we took a good sized cardboard box, and covered it with some netting so the bird can’t get out, and filled the bottom with a wrapped tower and shredded some tissue paper for warmth.

The next day the bird seems fine. My girlfriend tried to feed him but he was really scared and won’t eat, so then she kind of gave up the thought and tried to let him go. When the bird was outside, he freaked out a bit and thought “oh nos!! freedom burns!!!” and went back to my girlfriend – then she took him back to his box nest.

That day we didn’t have time to to proper research and go to a local pet store to purchase bird food. So we found some fish food, pre-soaked in water to soften up the pallets, with some defrosted blood worms (couldn’t find earthworms at the time), and gave to the bird – he seemed to like it quite a lot. He was fed this for 2 days.

The next morning the bird didn’t chirp – we went to have a look and he died :(
We found him tucked in the corner of the box and just lies there :(

Can someone tell us what happened to our birdie? What killed it, is it the fish food? Did he died of home-sick and a broken heart? Or could it be he was suffering from the injury when he fell?

Thanks in advance for all your advice :)

Persuing a nursing degree…?

I’ve been excepted into nursing school to get my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, and I want to be a neonatal nurse. Never before did I care about the money, and I still don’t, babies are my passion and that’s what I want to do in life, no matter my salary. Now of course I care about making money, don’t get me wrong and I knew nursing is a job that will always have openings and that they made good money (I was thinking along the lines of $15 an hour, but apparently its $25+ an hour), but not until just now did I look up a begining neonatal nurses salary and I’m floored!! I’m honestly nervous, and slightly scared. That’s just the cherry on the sundae, I found out 4 days ago I was accepted into this school, and when I told my mother and father in law they agreed, along with my husband, that we move in with them while I’m in school (because they live a mile from the school). We are moving in 5 days, and I start a job down there (which is a block from their house) in 2 days, and my whole world has been turned upside down in the past few days and I’m sitting on the couch crying. Not only all that, before nursing school starts, I’m taking Medical Transcription classes, so that while I’m in nursing school, I can work from their home doing MT work. The halls of my apartement that has been my home and safe haven are full of boxes, my cupboards only have 2 plates, 2 cups, and 1 coffee cup, and enough food to get us thru the next few days, and my voice echoes everywhere. I’ve never lived more than 10 miles away from the home where I grew up, and I’m about to move 40 miles away. Away from my family, away from my comfort zone. I barely know how to get to their house, much less fit in. I feel scared, almost like a bird who’s been pushed out of the nest. I just want to curl up with my dog and cry like a baby because of all this change in less than a week and everything that is on my plate. Suggestions?
