48 hour bird egg…eating, caring, etc…?

So, you may have seen my last question about how i found a bird egg, that i do not know if it it a Robin or a Greckel. yes, i suppose you have, if not, well, then, keep reading. So, i have been incubating this egg for about 48 hours now. I DO know that it is ALIVE and growing. The egg has gotten a bit bigger since i last measured it (the day we found the egg). There were no birds nest around, not up in the short trees we have here…no where! the closest nest in in my backyard, in my BBQ pit, but i have been watching that nest since it was being built. there were 5 eggs the day before they hatched, and about 3 minutes after they all had hatched, i went outside and counted the chicks…and still 5! i know that i didnt miscount the # of eggs, there have only been 5, and no more, no less, since!
i have been rotating the egg regularly, and monitoring the size, and heat of the incubator…
my question is what i should do to prepair for the hatch.
once it hatches, its going to be hungry, right? so what do i feed it? i own 3 birds of my own, but, anyways, should i feed it parakeet fod for the first few “whiles”. i wont be keeping it as a pet, i am going to care for it until it opens its eyes, then its straight the ASPCA.
here are all my questions-
•what should i feed it after it hatches?
•BEFORE it hatches, what should i put it in? should i place it in a box, then back on the heating pad?
•what should i do to prepare for the hatch?
•do i need to find worms? or can i buy them from the fishing section at wal-mart?
•how many times do i need to feed it?
•what are good signs of health that i should be looking for?
•REMEBER, ITS A ROBIN EGG, WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT I SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT THE CHICK DOESNT HAVE?
thnkx soooo much! ♥
btw, i do know that it is alive, i have tested it. and that was a visual account, im not sure that it has gotten bigger. please do not try to mock my intelligence.

How to care for breeding lovebirds?

I have a 2pairs of love birds who i didn’t even realize were mating, however i opened one of their nesting box to find 5eggs. i removed the box without realizing this and did not go to clean it until after i had cleaned the birds cages (so an hour)….
will this have damaged the survival of the eggs? i don’t know how cool they got..
is there a way to check the survival/fertility (these are the first eggs they have laid)?
is there any special care that needs to be given to the sitting bird? i hang all four birds outside during the day and bring them in at night.

any other advise on caring for the eggs and they’re parents?

Question about moving wild bird’s nest?

So, the scenario is that I ended up leaving my horse saddles in my trailer for 3 weeks due to being injured. I did not notice this until I went to move a horse. After an hour long trail ride and waiting around for an hour for direction, I loaded the horse and noticed a nest with five pink and brown speckled eggs.

So, I had touched the nest a bit, rolled and egg a bit, and thought they were goners because it had been about 5 hours since someone had sat on them.

A week or so ago, there were four eggs and a baby bird. Now there are 5 baby birds in a nest on my saddle. I need that saddle but I don’t want to be the cause of the demise of the little birds.

So, my question – can I move the nest or will the parents lose it? I can move it to above a box in my trailer that is about 18″ from where they are now. I would prefer to move them out of my trailer. There are two trees right by the trailer – one that the birds seem to frequent right next to the trailer, near where the nest is and another behind the trailer.

Will moving the nest mean the bird parents will not be able to find it? How far can I move it? I will use gloves and be REALLY careful and make sure the nest is secure, but I want to know the likelihood that the babies will survive this.
Thanks for the answers. Yeah, I thought maybe the touching the nest was a myth since I touched the egg itself and obviously the parents came back. They all seem to have feathers even though they are only a week old.

They were so cute – all of them sleeping when I checked in on them! I guess the parents can find them, since I took the trailer away for 5 hours and the parents obviously did not give up.

How long does it usually take for birds to leave the nest?

I have a show this coming Sunday and would prefer not to have the little guys away from the parents for the 6 hours or so I will be gone at the show.

If I move the nest, how do I figure out if the babies are being fed? I don’t think I can sit there long enough to watch the parents come back, Birds flit around a good bit whenever I pull up.

Any other signs to look for by looking at the nest that can tell me if the parents found it alright?
Oh, and birdgirl, thanks – I am looking for the species now so maybe that will give me a better idea.
Beth – thanks for the ideas, but I have a German Shepherd that while she is gentle as can be, gets into everything interesting and will likely either give the babies heart attacks or accidentally swallow them when she tries to play with them.

save a bird?

ok so the cat i stray cat in our backyard i asked about like an hour ago? well it tried to catch a bird. the bird escaped into our screened-in porch but is now very injured. we got it into a shoe box and im afraid to check if its dead or not. i dont want to let it die because it has a nest of little chicks that just hatched about a week ago to take care of. anyone know what to do to help, if anything?

How do I save a baby blue tit?

I found a baby blue tit this morning just sitting in the pouring rain. I moved it to a nearby bush and luckily after about an hour or so it’s mum found it. She has been feeding it all day but the baby bird (which does have feathers) appears only able to flutter 1/2 a metre or so. Not sure whether it’s wing was damaged – may have fell out of the nest? I am trying to let nature take it’s course but it’s very difficult knowing that the baby bird may die overnight (cold or eaten by a fox etc) so I would really like to try and do something. Is it worth trying to find the nest and put it back in? Should I try to make the baby bird warm (put it in an open box on the ground/towel/bring it in)? Any answers gratefully received! Donna

Since it is Sunday, how do you feel about this quote to live a Peaceful life?

25″Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?
28″And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Have a nice day!!
