Monk Parakeets in the U.S.A. Have you seen any in your state? We have lots of them in CT. and it is strange!

I worked on a remodeling job in East Norwalk near Long Island Sound. I was surprised to see a number of what I was told are Monk Parakeets feeding in a apple tree.
It just looked so strange to see tropical birds here in CT. I was told they escaped from a truck that turned over on I-95 in 1970 and have been surviving our winters, and extending their range south and west.

I was just wondering if there is a population of them in your state, and if there is any ecological problem because of them? They are a farming pest in South America, but I hope they do not become a problem here, as they are so much fun to watch and listen to in the summer.

I just found this about them.

Feeding the animals during snow- are baby carrots bad for birds?

Well, I was thinking of chucking some decent but stale bread and veggies into the creek for the wildlife here in the NorthEast (I’m from Long Island and I have no clue up here- yet! :-) )
So, what can I toss and what do i have to send to the dumps to pile up?
Thanks!
Also, what I’m asking is- are whole baby carrots going to be a choking danger, or do birds generally know what to avoid?

is the bird a wild bird?

we feed the birds in our back yard every day. there are blue jays, cardinals, humming birds, etc. but there is this bird that has grayish-brown body with a big red mark on top of his head. is that a wild bird or somebody’s pet? is there any wild birds that have a red mark on their head? i live on long island(just to let you know about the location)
