My love birds have layed two eggs – one in its nesting box and the second one outside of it. What should I do?

Would it best to leave the egg outside of the nesting box or move it into it. If so, how can I do this safely? Also, the female has been sitting on this egg and left the other one inside its nesting box after already sitting it. Could it die if left unattended?

my love birds don’t put the nesting materials i give them in their feathers why?

they just take it in their beak and put it in the nest-box why? (i have peach face love birds)

how do you discourage Squirrels?

My wife loves to feed the birds, unfortunatly Squirrels also love bird food, my wife has tride throwing stones, it did not work. I have just watched her chase down the garden brandishing a yard broom, shouting get out of hear, very funny to watch but am I getting it in the neck for laughing, help any suggestions, we do not use poison.

Love Bird breeding questions?

I have 2 peach faced love birds, both are about 1 year old. I’m not sure but I think one is a male, and one is a female. I have them together in a large cage with a nesting box. I see them “doing it” all day long. They do it both inside, and outside of the nesting box. Like I said I’m not sure of their sex, if they are the same sex, boy and boy or girl and girl, will they keep doing it, even though they can’t produce anything? Also I can’t seperate them because when I did The one that I think is a female ripped out her feathers from stress. I do not want babies, so when they lay eggs I plan on taking them out as soon as i see them to prevent hatching, is this a good idea? If not what’s a better idea? I also thought about getting fake eggs and replace the fake ones with the real ones, so she will not keep producing eggs, is this a good idea?

Love bird & mating/egg question please help!?

I have 2 lovebirds and they have been mating, i dont know the sex of them 4 sure but when i purchased them i was told that they where male and female. the “female” started sitting at the bottom of the cage ( ive heard this could meen that is ill ) but then the “male” kept coming over and feeding her. At this point i was a bit worried because i thought she may be going 2 lay an egg. so because the bottom of the cage didnt look a suitable place 4 chicks to be born i thought until i get a nest box i’d have 2 find something else, the only thing i found was a shoebox so i put that in the bottom of the cage and put some paper,tissue,and cardboard around the cage and in the box. soon after the “female” jumped in and started to twist the pieces of paper… into little twig looking thing. The “male” then came over to her and started feeding her. on the nights she would go to sleep on the top perch as usual with the other bird.

We went to the petshop to ask about the nest ( it really didnt look like one though and just like a mess =S )and to ask about nest boxes. the woman at the petshop suggested that if they are happy where they are then to just leave them and she was not at all pushy about trying to sell a nestbox to me straight away. I then told the woman that they keep accidentely pooing in it and i knew this could affect their health if they were to nest in it. She showed me the nestboxes and i got the cockatiel size because there was no inbetween that and a budgie size and some kind of cotton nesting fibres. i attached the box onto the cage when i got home and the “female” was straight in whilst the “male” sat on the perch attached and fed her. and they are both really happy about their new home and the “female” spends most of her time in there.

There hasn’t been any sign of an egg yet and I was wondering what was going on?
thanks =)
also the “female” seems to like cardboard tubes to shred and uses them to nest. The woman at the petshop recommended the cotton fibre nesting material because she said its not like hamster stuff and breaks easily and wont strangle them. =S
could i also have some info on what to do when chicks are born, i know most things, but i’d prefer if someone who has had personel experience with them to explain alot more. thanks =)
the budgie nesting box was tiny at the shop and my birds would have got stuck going into that box and they are not BIG lovebirds =S

I touched my baby lovebird and placed him back inside the nest box, did i do the right thing?

My love birds have 2 baby birds. Today one of the babies climbed out of the nest box. The parents went all jungle crazy on the babies ass. The dad started biting the baby on the neck and while it was climbing inside the cage, he started biting his feet, I guess he wanted the baby to fall off or something. The dad was being a real “dick” towards him, I left them alone and i returned 5 mins later to find the baby lovebird still on the bottom of the cage, while the dad and mom were screaming. The baby looks very healthy, he was walking very well and about a day ago he climbed out of the nest box and managed to climb back inside all by himself. but this time, he was not hanging near the hole of the nest box, so i opened the cage and gently grabbed the baby. As i held him in my hands, i was amazed at how beautiful and gentle the baby was, he was very comfortable in my hands. Anyway, i noticed the parents poking their heads out of the hole watching me. so eventually, i placed the baby near the hole of the box and he climbed in. now the parents are outside and i am afraid i messed things up. Is this normal, will the parents still feed that baby??
