Need Help About Lovebirds, please.?

I have two lovebirds, and the female already laid an egg yesterday, I already placed some bedding this morning that I got from our back and front yard, they consisted of grass, dried leaves, some leaves from a shrub, and some ferns. All moist to perfection because it rained here yesterday. I cut them into bedding-sized pieces and placed them inside the nesting box, making sure NOT to touch the egg out of fear that the birds might not sit on them anymore. But I did surround the egg with the bedding, so the eggs is probably cushioned. I also added boiled-egg in their diet, and some egg-shells, because I have heard that eggshells provide calcium. And plenty of green veggies. I change their water every now and then. And I secured the door of the box so the risk of the egg falling out when the birds peep out will be lessened. I still put them out to enjoys some fresh cool air. What more should I do? HOW LONG TILL ALL THE EGGS ARE LAID. Is it possible that ONLY ONE egg can be laid? This is my lovebird’s first time to lay eggs, can they be successful on the first time round? Do I have to wait for their second time to have babies? And when is the breeding season for lovebirds, I guess it’s the autumn or the cool season. Because when it started to get cool around here my birds laid an egg. I’m so excited of having an egg and I’m keeping to point to NOT peek at the box all the time. I peeked this morning to put some bedding and that’s that. How long do I have to wait till I can peek inside again to put some more bedding? Please answer me seriously. I need straight answers. Thank you very much.

How long since hatching day should I candle a lovebird egg?

My lovebird just hatched her first egg today! And I understand that they hatch a few more eggs later on in the week, is that right? I also noticed that my lovebirds hatched it inside the nesting box without nesting materials, is it alright? Should I put some in or put some on the cage floor and let them do it themselves. I also want to know how long since hatch-day should I candle their eggs, is it 5 days after the 3rd egg is laid, or 6-7 days after an egg was laid. And what ideal nesting materials to put, and what ideal food to give for these “parents-to-be”. It’s currently raining here every so often, like, every 3 and a half to 4 hours a day, sometimes strong sometimes mild. And in the morning it’s a bit chilly. We put the birds at our laundry room, it’s outside. . .the cage can feel the chill but they can’t feel the rain because our laundry room is under a roof at our yard… Is it fine to put them there? They could only feel the slight chill, is that ok? Or should I keep them in the house from now on?

How do I stop my lovebird from laying soft shelled eggs?

I have a lovebird pair that’s been breeding for a few years without any problems until recently. Several months ago the female lovebird began to lay soft shelled eggs. My vet told me that she lacks calcium so I gave her calcium and vitamin D supplements, but she continued on laying soft shelled eggs. I took away her nesting box and tried to allow her to rest, but she continued on mating anyways and tearing up newspaper. I don’t really care if she is unable to rear chicks, I just want her to stop laying eggs and risking death from egg binding. I am trying to separate the pair, but they are very close and they would call to each other all the time and I really don’t like having to split the two up. Does anyone have tips on treating the problem of soft shelled eggs, or at least knows how to discourage a bird from laying eggs? Would a calcium shot help?

My 12 year old Lovebird is in dire need of some lifestyle changes; tips?

When I was ten, I bought a pair of lovebirds from the pet store. Beautiful little dears, but naturally they bonded to each other instead of me, and I was too immature at the time for the responsibility anyways.
12 years later, I’m much older and only one bird remains as the male met a terrible fate at the beak of his angry mate (they liked it rough, I guess you could say), and the female is all alone. She’s been relocated to my room, which has nice big windows and she has her own personal alcove with a big cage.

Problem is, she’s a huge seed junkie and has had a nesting box for her whole life. She’s been essentially neglected by the prior caretaker, and I’ve stepped in.
How likely is her health to change if I alter her diet gradually from the dollar store budgie seed she was fed by my mom to quality pellets? How difficult will it be? Will she ever adapt at all, or is she ‘too old for change’ as my mom tries to tell me? Oh, and should I definitely invest in a UV lamp like my niece suggested?

In addition to this, when she sits she’s very puffy, and she often vomits black/white gunk. I’ve no clue what’s up, as I’m the only person who seems to witness this. Also, any tips on teaching her how to play with toys would be great. I’m planning on hand-taming her over the long-term.

I touched my baby lovebird and placed him back inside the nest box, did i do the right thing?

My love birds have 2 baby birds. Today one of the babies climbed out of the nest box. The parents went all jungle crazy on the babies ass. The dad started biting the baby on the neck and while it was climbing inside the cage, he started biting his feet, I guess he wanted the baby to fall off or something. The dad was being a real “dick” towards him, I left them alone and i returned 5 mins later to find the baby lovebird still on the bottom of the cage, while the dad and mom were screaming. The baby looks very healthy, he was walking very well and about a day ago he climbed out of the nest box and managed to climb back inside all by himself. but this time, he was not hanging near the hole of the nest box, so i opened the cage and gently grabbed the baby. As i held him in my hands, i was amazed at how beautiful and gentle the baby was, he was very comfortable in my hands. Anyway, i noticed the parents poking their heads out of the hole watching me. so eventually, i placed the baby near the hole of the box and he climbed in. now the parents are outside and i am afraid i messed things up. Is this normal, will the parents still feed that baby??

why wont my love bird sleep in the nest?

i currently got a male lovebird, in the process of getting a female. but i already setup a nesting box. but it seems like the love bird does not like the box or something its been like a week and from the looks of it he has never step foot inside, is this normal or like do they only go inside to lay eggs? i thought they would at least go inside to sleep like regular birds. again currently i just got 1 male lovebird.
The main point of me getting the nest was for egg laying hopefully when i get more.
