Hoarder or not?

She lives in a small single wide mobile home and has 21 birds of which about 10 are macaw, cockatoo the others conures etc.

She got all these birds in about a ten month period and is wanting more.

I say she is a hoarder but then I think that she does take good care of them, very, very clean and feeds a good diet.

She is a bit “off” upstairs but not real bad.

I am one of a select few she allows into her home and I don’t want to break her trust in me but I need to say and ask her questions as she just can’t get anymore birds.

From what little she has told me she had an inheritance from her father’s estate thus the money.

I know her from a mutual friend, we are co-workers.

Help me to help her and these birds and future birds so she doesn’t end up being on the news!
I didn’t write well, she doesn’t work and is a loner, I know her from her one friend that I work with.

My concern is that when the inheritance runs out her SSI will not cover the food and toys and upkeep.

The cages are minimal in size with the macaws and cockatoos being in I believe to be 36″ x 24″ cages and the diet is great, pellets, seeds, veggies, sprouted seeds, nuts and tons of “people food”.

I’ve had a grey for over 10 yrs so I know a bit but she is heading for a train wreck and all I’m trying to do is to prevent it from happening.

She is kinda “mental” but not in a mean way. She has no concept of long term care for these birds as far as the money and time and work and space.

Part of me just says to forget it and let it alone as it’s none of my business but then I think of past news where they show the birds being brought out of homes half plucked and raw and half starved.

I’m just trying to figure out how to talk to her without her shuting me out.

What kind of commitment is involved in purchasing a macaw?

I have loved macaws since I was a little girl. I’m 20 now, and getting ready to get married and move to Boston. I would eventually like to buy a macaw, but I was wondering exactly what I’ll need for taking care of the bird. How big would the cage be, will I need to wait until I live in a house vs. an apartment, what do I feed it, does it need exercise, etc.

cooking for your bird…recipe’s?

Ok, my family flock has grown quite big as we are planning on 2 new additions. Zuess is a redwing macaw and Kaida is a triton cockatoo. both will be joining our family next week. Peachy and Cheeky will be the older sisters and they are both cockatiels. They are all on a zupreme pellet diet with a small amount of mixed seed. I know it is going to get very expensive keeping them feed with their fresh vegetables and fruits, etc. So, I’m hoping I can once every 2 weeks or at the beginning of each month precook a batch of food and freeze it for the month. I would like to put together a recipe that ALL of my birds can share. does anyone have a good recipe?
oops I meant zuess is a greenwing macaw lol. But, he is soooo red!! lol

How To Hand Feed Birds

This is a breeder method. This method is designed to feed many birds in a short period of time that require feeding every 2- 4 hours or they would starve. PLEASE watch the video responses for alternative methods if you are trying to save a bird in your backyard. I personally would use a spoon method although you take the chance of contamination and infection. There is no guaranteed way to replace a parent.
