In curiousity, can a parakeet die from eating too much?

The reason why i’m asking is because, my sister had 4 parakeets, but one died this morning. The parakeet that died, she had since fall of 2005 and he seemed to have a bigger appetite than the other birds. Lately he seemed a little sluglish, like he was too full. We would take the food out and only feed them 3 times a day. Is it possible that he died from eating too much?

True Albino Cockatiel?

I have been breeding cockatiels for more than 10 years. Most of my birds are pied, or cinnamon. I have had more than 100 babies born in the last 10 years, and I have only had pied, cinnamon, cinnamon-pied, or normal grey babies born. This morning I checked on my newest clutch, and I was very surprised to find a little all white red eyed chick in the nest box. I have been searching everywhere about cockatiel genetics, and I can’t really find anything about why this little baby was born. Could this be a true albino, or have my birds been hiding some lutino genes? This is the fist clutch from this particular pair; the mom is cinnamon pied and the dad is pearl. This is the first pearl I have ever owned, so I don’t know if they normally produce lutino chicks. What do you think?

What happened to my baby birds?!?

There is a robin’s nest on my back porch, on the porch light. There were 2 baby birds in there – one was hatched the day before yesterday, and the other one just yesterday. My brother put a webcam out there and we’ve been watching. Just this morning, the mother and father were feeding the birds and everything was fine.

Now, a few hours later, the birds are gone! It’s just an empty nest, and the mother and father seem nowhere around.

Did a crow get them? Or is it possible that the mother and father robins moved them? There’s no way a cat could have got them where they are. Do crows eat baby birds?

I’m so upset!

My cat lost his voice, is there anything I should do?

My 8 year old cat (Sammy) lost his voice. He was fine on Sunday; monday morning his meow sounded scratchy, then today (Tuesday), he had no voice. He tries to meow but can’t.

*this is a very vocal cat; we can not usually get him to be quiet (ex- him meowing to go outside or chattering at the birds). He has been drinking a lot of water lately. We did schedule a vet appointment for Saturday. Anything we can do until then (ex- feed him wet food)?

Why did our feral baby bird died?

We picked up a feral baby bird that fell from his nest and took him home to feed, hoping that we can raise it until he reaches adulthood and then let him fly free. Unfortunately, this morning when we picked him up he died :(

Here’s some details:
My girlfriend and I went for a stroll at a nearby park and our dog found the bird. He seemed to have fell of one of the really tall trees (all bout 10m +) and can’t get back up to his nest. So we decided to take him home since there trees are way too high for us to get up (and there are also so many of them) and there are a lot of feral cats around (bad kittehs!!).

The bird is a generic bird you see around your house. He’s not a sparrow nor a crow, but he’s smaller than crow, black feathers and orange beak.

We took him home and then set up a simple home for him. It was late so we couldn’t get proper bird supplies. Therefore, we took a good sized cardboard box, and covered it with some netting so the bird can’t get out, and filled the bottom with a wrapped tower and shredded some tissue paper for warmth.

The next day the bird seems fine. My girlfriend tried to feed him but he was really scared and won’t eat, so then she kind of gave up the thought and tried to let him go. When the bird was outside, he freaked out a bit and thought “oh nos!! freedom burns!!!” and went back to my girlfriend – then she took him back to his box nest.

That day we didn’t have time to to proper research and go to a local pet store to purchase bird food. So we found some fish food, pre-soaked in water to soften up the pallets, with some defrosted blood worms (couldn’t find earthworms at the time), and gave to the bird – he seemed to like it quite a lot. He was fed this for 2 days.

The next morning the bird didn’t chirp – we went to have a look and he died :(
We found him tucked in the corner of the box and just lies there :(

Can someone tell us what happened to our birdie? What killed it, is it the fish food? Did he died of home-sick and a broken heart? Or could it be he was suffering from the injury when he fell?

Thanks in advance for all your advice :)

Zebra finches are dying?

I had 22 zebra finches. I had them about 2 to 7 years when all of a sudden the other day when I went in to feed them I saw 3 of them dead on the floor of the cage. I had never seen this before. I have had one die before but not 3. I moved the cage and called the bird lady in town and she said to give them some antibiotics in their water. I did this and the next morning I found 4 more on the floor and 3 in the nesting box. I was mortified. Does anyone know what type of disease could do this??????? One of them was my oldest finch I had for 8 years. My little girl is HEARTBROKEN and I am extremely angry that she had to see that.

I did notice that one of them looked like it had its eye pecked out by one of the others but now I am thinking it might have something to do with their death
Birds do not drop dead of old age all at once and some of them were 2 or 3. Zebra Finches particularly males live to the age of 12. If you are unsure of the question please dont answer
