Male and Female Parakeets!?

I have had a male parakeet for 8 years now, and I recently got a new one last winter. I put them in their own cages because I thought after so long the male wouldn’t like having a new bird in his space. But I didn’t know that it was a girl! I thought it was taking a long time for the cere to change to blue, and when they finally got to interacting together yesterday, they started to ‘kiss’ each other and she put her tail up in the air and his pupils got really tiny! I tried to take him away but he hopped off of my finger back to her! Eventually he let me put him back in the cage. I can’t deal with any babies but I feel bad to separate them. I think they are bonded already now! I have never had more than one bird at a time. I would like to let them be together but I want to be pretty sure they won’t have babies. I read to not give or let them make a nest box….Had anyone had personal experience with this and what did you do? Also, I noticed that the female eats everything- the cuddle bone is almost gone in a few weeks, the grainy perch covers are eaten up, and she even eats the wood perch…I gave her the mineral block and she just pooped on it. Is there anything special I need to do for female parakeets? Thanks.

Do you have to tame every budgie you get?

Hey yahoo. I am going to be a first time bird owner, and I was confused on something. Do you have to tame every budgie you get.(even if it was hand raised???) I have been doing research and all and It seems like everybody says ” well you have to tame it by……” or books will have headers Taming your bird, Taming your parakeet. And I am getting the impression that no matter what you have to tame the bird. But like I said I am still confused on that little tidbit of it. And is it true that if you get a female she will regardless of having a male or not she will lay eggs? And that if you have a female then you should have a nest box? Because if that’s the case then I will go with a male. I am continuing to do as much research as possible on the budgie before I actually get it. So I thank you for your time, and I would appreciate your answers. And please do not post a simple one word answer(ex yes, no, yes) I would appreciate it if you guys answer with at least a simple sentence. Thanks again for your time and answers. I really appreciate it tons.

about baby parakeet nest box & flying?

the little baby parakeet Lucky is around 30 days old and came out of the box when she was only 25 days old or so. She climb back in & out when she wants to & now when the mother goes inside she keeps throwing the bird bedding everywhere! I’m thinking she is getting ready to mate & breed again so I’m not sure if I should take the box out. I don’t want her to lay eggs anymore, she’s not ready for it & she still is feeding her baby bird because the father doesn’t help whatsoever.

Do you think it’s a good idea to take out the nest box?
And when does a baby bird usually start to fly? because I will be the one teaching her since her father is even scared to go near her.

More details:
She is fully feathered.
around 30 days old.
Try’s to eat food but still can’t.
The mother also generally likes to feed her in the nest box but at most times she will feed her outside of the box & at times when she wont go to her, I bring her to her mommy and she gets fed from my hand.

A parakeet that was already pregnant from the petshop? I need help?

Ok is it possible if you got a femal budgie from a petshop that is already pregnant? and say you don’t have a male bird also, you only have 1 parakeet so if the parakeet was already pregnant when you got her will her eggs hatch and the birds be ok or will there have to be a male one to like fertilize the eggs or so,ething or is there a product from the store u can pour on the eggsthe part the male usally does whatever the male does lol so basicly i mean if you buy just a girl parakeet and it is already pregnant will it be able to lay eggs and have them succesfully or do you need a male bird or is there some prooduct to take the males place or do you need nothing except a nesting box and the female will lay succesfully? and if not how do you tell if there pregnant and how do you tell if there pregnant but the eggs are stuck in them and is there a way for her to still llive if the eggs are stuck.

Well I have a couple Q’s please answer thanks!
Birds do to get pregnant you phsycotic pig!

Gender of my two parakeets?

I had bought a parakeet a few months ago and just recently I bought another one. They get along i guess(the older one chirps when the new one gets too close), but i don’t know what gender they are.

First off my few month old keet has a blue-ish nose with purple( so i thought it was a boy)… until i read that when you hold them the boy is calm, but when i hold my bird it squirms and screeches loudly.

Well, when I hold the other one and wrap my hand around it doesn’t screech, and it only wiggles a little. It has a tan-pink nose, but that doesn’t really matter because it can still change.

PLEASE help me because if they are different genders I will have to start reading about breading and get a nest box, because I will not give one away and I also will NOT separate them(well when the birds hatch I will eventually separate the dad if I have to!
