A little difficulties with with my parakeets?
When I added a nesting box (tissue box with shredded paper) and added the egg carefully with a glove on, my bird didn’t seem to go near it or in it. So, i took it back out and put the egg back where it was in the first place on the bottom of the cage in the corner.
Will my female parakeet still care for it?
Is it possibale to make your own nesting box without choking the parakeets?
like some people say you can use paper but im afraid my birds will eat the paper and choke on it. i dont know of a place to buy one and im afraid that they will lay their egg but it will break or something
Raising Baby Parakeets?
we decided a month ago to let a pair or our parakeets hatch their own eggs out, after a lot of research and stuff. It was her first time, so the eggs never hatched. Then, we took a different pair, who had already bonded, and put them in a separate cage. Toddra, the female parakeet, sat on the eggs and barely got off. Her nest box is a wooden box with 1 hole and a cover that lifts up. A few days ago, I found out some exciting news; one baby chick had hatched! It had hatched a day or two ago, without anyone knowing. Toddra has been sitting on the small, bald chick. It was peeping a lot, so it’s strong and seems healthy. Toddra is fed seeds, a formulated egg diet for extra protein and calcium, and some veggies and fruits, such as apples and celery. So since the mother is feeding the chick, it’s getting a pretty healthy diet. My question is, do we just let Toddra take care of the chick until it’s old enough to leave the nest? If so, at what age is it old enough to live on its own(such as eating solid foods, drinking water, etc.)? Some people take them at 10 weeks and they feed them a special baby bird formula, but we don’t have the time to feed the chick 4x a day. Toddra and the father seem to be taking good care of the chick, so we aren’t really worried about her not feeding it or something like that. Any info on baby parakeets would be great!(not for raising them ourselves, but for knowing when they can live on their own and stuff like that) Thanks!
Help! How can I fit two nesting boxes in one cage?
I have 1 male and 2 female parakeets in one 3-bird cage. I have recently figured out that my two females are both pregnant. I need two nesting boxes, and I can only fit one in the cage. I have another 1-bird cage, but it won’t fit a nesting box probably. Any suggestions on questions or on the baby’s? This is my first time with a pregnant parakeet!
I’m planning to buy two parakeets (budgies) some time….?
So I’m planning to buy two parakeets some time. I’m also planning on building an aviary for them. I know what materials I need, except for the size of the wire mesh. Is 1/2″ safe? Or do I have to buy 1/4″? I’d also like to know a little about new parakeets.
1. I’d like to know how long I should wait to let them fly around?
2. How long until I can hold them?
3. Should I take them to the vet for a check up soon after I buy them?
4. How can I train them to hop onto my finger inside the cage to take them out?
5. Should I get a cuttlefish bone or a mineral block?
6. If I get a male and a female is it safe to assume I’ll need a nesting box?
7. Should I repeat their names to them often?
8. Should I keep my cats in a separate room even when the birds are in their cage?
are my parakeets(budgies) going to mate?
umm i recently just modified my birds cage and added a nesting box to the side the next day i noticed my birds playing with the box like chewing at the hole and stuff. the day after that i noticed they go inside of it. I had some fluff in their box incase she lays eggs but they took it out will they mate? i live in northern hemisphere and its pretty much spring already my girl budgie and boy budgie are mature enough and when the girl is inside the box i guess the boy would come and share food with her you know when it appears they kiss. so i dont know if they’re going to mate are they?
have baby parakeets, need info on them please!!?
my pair of parakeets have mated and the female laid 6 eggs. As of yesterday 3-24-09 the first egg hatched. This morning the 2nd egg hatched. What if any thing do I need to do. The female never would made a nest. We bought nesting hairs and put the box in the cage but she would not have any thing to do with it. So I had to put straw in the nesting box my self. She pushed a lot of it out of the box. The rest is spread out in a circle in the box.The babies are laying on the bottom of the box. Not the straw.Should I put more straw in the box? The cage is small and so is the nesting box. Should I put a bigger box in for a bigger nest? I want to do all that I can to help these little birds. I have enjoyed my bird very much even thow they will not let me touch them. We have had them for 1yr and 1 month. I got them from my nephew. Them raise birds on their back pourch. But they let the birds do all the feeding and raising of the babies.
