I found a baby bird! So what should i feed it? PLEASE read the details. I want this baby bird to live :)……?

So i found this baby bird in my yard. it fell out of its nest. there was another baby bird that fell out of its nest about 5 feet away from it, but it didnt survive…. and its dead. so i took this baby in and put it in a converse shoe box. (with ventilation of course.) and so my niece named it peddy, cuz she was there with me. :) anyway, it was opening its mouth really widely cuz it wanted food! i didnt know what to feed it, so i called my *friend and she said the best thing to feed it was bugs. i dont have bugs. so she then said to try feeding him hot dog… i did and she took it really well and ate it. it was really cute!!!!…. so i’ve had it for half a day now…. but then baby peddy vomited the hot dog a few hours later after fed it to him, several times around the box. i then refused to clean that up and moved it to a different box. so now, i dont know what to feed him. other things that my friend suggested that i dont have chicken or turkey, i cant go to the pet store to buy it bugs, cuz i cant drive, and i cant feed him KFC or chicken nuggets cuz they have spices and preservatives! i asked her about feeding it bread, but she said it doesnt have enough nutrition to be its main food. i then asked about fruits and veggies, but she said that baby birds dont really eat those.

WHAT CAN I DOO?

please help, this bird has shown to be good and healthy so far.
and i want to help it back into the outdoors. :)

how long can this baby bird go without food?

and it is tilting its head straight up with a big mouth as if asking for food. (i've seen this on television) so thats why i thought he wanted food.
OH! IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL DETAIL!!

Mating Cockatiels, advise?

I often personally rescue animals and try to find them a new home once they are healthy and sociable, if I don’t become attached that is. In the beginning of December, I was referred to a home that had a pair of cockatiels that were living in an extremely unhealthy habitat. They were not being fed or watered properly, they had mold growing in the water dish, droppings inches deep on the bottom of the rabbit cage that they were being kept it and one had a severe eye infection, they were not vocal, they were scared, dirty and over all unhealthy. I was able to take possession of the tiels, I got them clean, healthy and the eye infection taken care of and of course, became attached. I assumed that they were the same sex (I know some will not accept a cage mate of the same sex, but it is not impossible) because they had never mated before but I also knew that their stressful environment could also be the problem. Then about two weeks ago, I noticed that they had started to mate. I’ve caught them in action 3 or 4 different days. I know that it can take around 20-30 days for her to lay her first clutch of eggs and then another 20-30 days for them to hatch, I have consulted with a local pet store that also raise birds and they helped me pick out a calcium supplement for the bird to lay healthy hard eggs and also helped me to pick out a nesting box. What I’m wondering is, how likely is it for them to try to mate if they are of the same sex? I do know that some dogs, whether it be two males or a female in heat will often try to mate with another dog of the same sex, cats not so much (though a friend of mine had a cat and dog that tried to mate on occasion). How do I know that they are actually mating and not just relieving their natural sexual frustration? Do I just wait to see if “she” lays eggs? Also, when they lay and they do hatch, is it best to hand raise them or let the mother and father raise them (yes, the father will help the mother)? I’ve always dealt with rescuing dogs and cats, so I’m a little lost when it comes to birds.

I’m sure that this question seems weird and possibly crazy, but it is a serious question and I do ask for only serious responses! Any true advise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much! The pet store did in fact say no grit or crushed oyster shells because they may eat too much and it may become compacted in their stomachs. They told me to just use the reptile calcium supplement once, maybe twice a week sprinkled on their food and I was not advised to add anything to their water. Since I got them, I’ve been giving them vitamin drops in their food and it really did seem to help them become healthy faster. They gained weight, their feathers became much more normal and I’ve experienced no problems with the birds since I’ve had them.

sun conure regurgitating?

The pet store told me that he loves the toy so much that he thinks its his mate and is feeding it. I thought maybe it could be a female and thinks that the toy is her baby? The bird is healthy in every other way.any suggestions??

Are my Cockatiel birds really mating?

Ok, so I bought what I was told was a pair- but then a pet store told me the females have very light colored cheeks. My “female” has dark cheeks. Anyhow, the “boy” sings to her all day and sometimes he mounts her. He is on her for what seems like forever and she is chirping loudly the whole time. Then he gets off and she chases him all over the cage and tries to bite him. They “mate” about 4-5 times a day, if not more. Usually he is the one in the nesting box, not her. No eggs have been laid and my husband insists that they are 2 boys, but why would the bird let himself is one and (2) wouldn’t the one who is always pretending to be the girl eventually want to be on top? My husband says maybe he wants to, that’s why he chases the other one around the cage. What do you guys think?

By the way, the “girl” is all grey with orange cheeks- the “boy” has a yellow head, orange cheeks and a grey body. The girl does seem smaller, in body than the boy.

I have some questions on hand feeding baby birds.?

First off, my birds are Zebra Finches. I know it’s not very common for someone to hand feed Zebra Finches, but I brought home my pair about a week ago, and my little brother was absolutely thrilled and he wanted to know if he could hold them. So I figure why not? The female laid her first egg either last night or this morning, so I figure, now is the time to figure out if hand feeding is a bad idea or not. First off, I won’t be horribly disappointed if my attempts to make them trust humans is all for nothing. But my main question is this: If I hand feed them, does that mean it has to be ALL me, or do the parents still pitch in? I work full time at a pet store and go to school, so I can’t take on the full job of raising them. Second question, how old should they be when I start hand feeding them? ..You know, I have a lot of questions. Maybe if someone could just tell me what to do, how to do it, how often, etc, that would be great. Thanks.

Help Please! unsure what to do???

Bought my new baby cockateel from pet store,it turened out she wasnt even weened so we payed for specalist help, she spent 4 weeks going from being hand fead and sleeping on hot water bottle, to feeding herself and sleeping on her perch.
and after 4 long weeks she was well enough to come home :)
we own a adult cockatil as well and at first things werent so bad, except on the first night when the birds were being put in the dinning room where its more quiet at there bed time “Both birds” went into “panick mode” flapping around there cages just because the new bird was brought out first? since then we move both birds into the dinningroom at the same time,
my question is how can i bond with my new bird as she seems to becoming more paniky “rather than carm”? she will eat from my hand so shes not scared ov me,but my adult teel starts scwaking and she joins him in panick mode, how can i carm her???
both birds r in there own cages n it seems like our adult teel is panakin as if something is going to happen to our baby teel rather than case of him not excepting her? our adult trusts us 100% so why does he act like this? could it be because our baby teel makes some very strange sounds? she spent 4 weeks homed up with 1 macawl, african grey,2 parakies and a cockatile not sure which she mimics excepet its not the cockatile lol
she even makes screaching noise which sounds like “chimpanzie showing its dominance”???
