Know about hurt baby birds?

Ok, got a wild baby bird that has been mauled a bit. I’m holding it right now, wondering what in the world to feed it. My daughter told me to get baby bird food, but that means I have to drive a few hours because I’m so far away from an open pet store. I need to do something now because I think it’s hungry. Any suggestions?

What do I do with my pet parakeets, I have to go out of town for about 4 to 5 days.?

I have 2 pet parakeets, and I have to go out of town for about 4 to 5 days. I don’t know what to do with them. I was going to leave them with a friend and then someone told me that may not be a good idea. They said the birds may not adjust well to a new enviorment. My home is moderately quiet, because there is no one there, but my teenage daughter and myself. The person I was going to leave them with is single with no kids, so her house is usually quiet too. I also thought about leaving them with my brother, but he smokes. I don’t smoke, so my birds are not used to smoke, and I don’t want to exspose them to it. Someone said I should just give my brother the key to my house and ask him to come over everyday to feed them and give them fresh water, because again the shock of leaving them in an unfamiliar enviorment may be too much for them. I don’t know. What do you think. If any of you are veternarians or are just experienced bird owners, I would really appreciate your advice.

My 12 year old Lovebird is in dire need of some lifestyle changes; tips?

When I was ten, I bought a pair of lovebirds from the pet store. Beautiful little dears, but naturally they bonded to each other instead of me, and I was too immature at the time for the responsibility anyways.
12 years later, I’m much older and only one bird remains as the male met a terrible fate at the beak of his angry mate (they liked it rough, I guess you could say), and the female is all alone. She’s been relocated to my room, which has nice big windows and she has her own personal alcove with a big cage.

Problem is, she’s a huge seed junkie and has had a nesting box for her whole life. She’s been essentially neglected by the prior caretaker, and I’ve stepped in.
How likely is her health to change if I alter her diet gradually from the dollar store budgie seed she was fed by my mom to quality pellets? How difficult will it be? Will she ever adapt at all, or is she ‘too old for change’ as my mom tries to tell me? Oh, and should I definitely invest in a UV lamp like my niece suggested?

In addition to this, when she sits she’s very puffy, and she often vomits black/white gunk. I’ve no clue what’s up, as I’m the only person who seems to witness this. Also, any tips on teaching her how to play with toys would be great. I’m planning on hand-taming her over the long-term.

Pet treat recipes?

Hey!

If you have ANY pet food or treat recipes, please send them to me!
I am going to be doing my own homemade pet food home business for a bit of extra $, and to feed my own pets (3 cats, 1 dog)
Also, any ideas you may have on packaging the treats/food would be great… basically, tell me what you would like to see and purchase, if you were in the market for pet treats.
-What kind of pet would you buy treats for? (Bird, cat, dog, rodent)
-What packaging would appeal to you?
-What price ranges would you find acceptable?
-Would you buy the item online, at a reasonable price and shipping rate?
-Would you buy a gift basket for a pet, or someone with a pet?

Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks! ;)

How much do u feed a pet cockateil bird in a day?

I have a pet cockateil and i want to know how often to feed it cause it is getting to plumb.

Very very very Odd budgie behavior. What’s your take on it?

About a month ago, I got a budgie. He was very timid, so we named him Timmy. He was not hand fed. I figured getting him tamed would be a challenge, but since I know of 0 local breeders, and no Mom and Pop pet stores left in the area, it was pretty much my only option. There used to be a lot many years ago, now it’s only Petco and Petsmart, with two local fish stores.

Well, I let him acclimate to his new home the first week. Spending time with him, talking to him.. but he never moved.. the only time he would move is when he went to get food or water. I figured he was still freaked out about the move.

Well, it didn’t help. He still rarely moved 3 weeks later, and panics every time I open the door to his cage. Any and all attempts at training have failed. Disappointing, but not unexpected… being a “bin o’ budgies” bird, my expectations weren’t that high.

Well, since he refuses to interact with me, any of his toys, and just sits immobile all day every day, I figure he must be lonely. Maybe if I get a girl, it will liven him up and give him some kind of interaction. Maybe they’d mate and I can hand feed the babies and get a tame budgie.. pipe dream, but none the less, I worry about the little guy just being immobile all day.

Well, I got a bigger cage, another budgie, a couple more toys and a nest box (yeah I know, overly optimistic). Within the hour, Timmy perked up quite a bit. They were chirping back and forth, he’d follow the other one around, the new one groomed him a bit. It was all cute and adorable.

Then the oddest thing… The new one regurgitated seed and fed it to Timmy, who ate it. Is this normal for budgies? The only time I’ve seen this is when the parents feed their young…

What Do YOU Feed Your Pet Birds?

What do you personally feed your birds (for those who own them, obviously)?

Note this is not a question about what should they be fed, I want to know what people personally feed their own birds and if you feed them at a certain time, etc.
