can i change my baby cockatiels’ pine shavings?

i have a male and female cockatiels, they have babies for about 2 weeks now. the babies have been inside the nestbox ever since and i occasionally let them out and handle them (without their mom and dad knowing anything). the problem is, the babies have been pooping inside the nest box and their poop is accumulating inside so the nestbox really has a stinky smell and i want to change the pine shaving for hygiene of both the babies and my home. is that ok or would the parents abandon the kids if they noticed that the pine shavings have been changed? i don’t want that to happen because i don’t want to hand-feed the little birds. thank u

Question about my Baby Bird?

I’ve been keeping some baby starlings after they fell out of the nest after a big storm we had. I’ve been keeping them in a cardboard box and they’ve been thriving with the mashed dog food and earthworms I’ve been feeding them. I’ve been trying to teach them to eat by themselves and one of the birds accidentally ate a piece of cardboard. (The shavings I was using to line the bottom of the box was the tan crumpled cardboard pieces that are commonly used for guinea pigs…) It’s not stuck in his throat, he swallowed the whole thing. I’m really worried… Is he going to be okay? Will he poop it out? They’ve all be pooping less frequently now that I think about it… (Even though I’ve been feeding them more frequently) I found them three weeks ago. Now they are fully feathered and starting to fly. Please tell me what you think about him being able to poop out the piece of cardboard. Thank you.
He cannot go free yet. I’m still trying to teach him how to feed himself and he ate a piece of cardboard instead of eating the worm!
I tried calling vets and wildlife rehabbers when I first found the birds as per the advice of my husband. The rehabbers in my area are individuals that don’t readily take birds, the rehab center doesn’t take wildlife West of Manorville and the vets offices don’t “specialize in small or exotic animals”. There is literally no place to bring them…

lovebirds?

is it worth it to go out and buy one of those bird cozzys that they say small pet birds sleep in. or do the birds just poop in it and if i buy it will they nest in that or a nesting box?

Maybe It’s Time ????

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table… Everywhere.

Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn’t even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be… Quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now lets see… Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free Education and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the Tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: your child’s 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn’t speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press “one” to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than “Old Glory” are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Maybe it’s time for the government to take down the bird feeder !!!!
