Raising Baby Parakeets?
we decided a month ago to let a pair or our parakeets hatch their own eggs out, after a lot of research and stuff. It was her first time, so the eggs never hatched. Then, we took a different pair, who had already bonded, and put them in a separate cage. Toddra, the female parakeet, sat on the eggs and barely got off. Her nest box is a wooden box with 1 hole and a cover that lifts up. A few days ago, I found out some exciting news; one baby chick had hatched! It had hatched a day or two ago, without anyone knowing. Toddra has been sitting on the small, bald chick. It was peeping a lot, so it’s strong and seems healthy. Toddra is fed seeds, a formulated egg diet for extra protein and calcium, and some veggies and fruits, such as apples and celery. So since the mother is feeding the chick, it’s getting a pretty healthy diet. My question is, do we just let Toddra take care of the chick until it’s old enough to leave the nest? If so, at what age is it old enough to live on its own(such as eating solid foods, drinking water, etc.)? Some people take them at 10 weeks and they feed them a special baby bird formula, but we don’t have the time to feed the chick 4x a day. Toddra and the father seem to be taking good care of the chick, so we aren’t really worried about her not feeding it or something like that. Any info on baby parakeets would be great!(not for raising them ourselves, but for knowing when they can live on their own and stuff like that) Thanks!
How should I take care of my baby parakeets, when they hatch?
I’m very worried on how I should go about caring for my baby parakeets when they hatch, the hen is currently nesting her eggs, however in the past she’s laid a batch (1 hatched and died after a single day). I want to avoid the same thing from happening again, and I don’t have the heart to break the eggs like others who don’t want to go through the trouble do. The problem starts when the babies are first born. (about the first week or so) the mother doesn’t really know what to do when the babies hatch, and she just continues to sit there paying no attention to the baby at all. While I’m afraid to touch it since when they first hatch they seem so frail and soft, and I’m not sure if I should. I’ve bought a Nesting box for my hen, some bedding, and baby formula with a Syringe to begin the feeding, such as that I’ve seen on youtube. However I don’t think it’s possible to start feeding the baby birds 1-3 days out of the egg since their mouths are so small. What do birds eat when their 1-6 days old? When should I start hand feeding the birds? Should I take the hen out of the nest after the eggs hatch? How long should it be until I stop hand feeding the babies and introduce them to seeds? If there’s anybody out there who is an expert on baby Parakeets i plea to you, PLEASE help me!!

How Should I Feed, or monitor my baby birds when they hatch?

What to feed young-ish zebra finches?
I took two little baby zebra finches (no adult colouring at all) out of my aviary and put them in an indoor cage. The nest had been abandoned and there was a dead baby bird in there too. The two birds I took out had just fledged and no other birds seemed to be paying them much attention. The nesting box was wrecked so I have since pulled it out. I have provided the two young birds with finch seed and water but I have noticed that there are no cracked seeds or husks. I presume this is because they aren’t eating. I’ve tried to feed them some warm porridge and milk through a dropper and this worked a little bit, but it was late and they seemed tired. Any advice on a homemade feeding recipe and feeding techniques would be appreciated. Thanx
How do you make a nest for my “Pregant” parakeet?
Ellu ppl. ^^ Okay I have 3 parakeets for 5 years now and i recently found out one of them was “pregant” and had 2 eggs but the other female bird broke them. So now I seperated them, but I still need a nest. I did think about buying one but i dont know. But I did put a box with newspaper sheds and some seeds in there. Do you think thats enough? What else could I do to make her comfortable? Im excited but scared at the same time.
Hey bird people please answer my question?
How do you teach a bird to eat seeds & food without a dropper and on it’s own?
About a week ago I found a mockingbird hopping around my yard(there’s tons of cats around here).I looked up on the internet what to feed him, went to the pet store, bought it, put it in a blender, and then a dropper to feed him.
I read that if you put him back where you find him his mom would come to him even if he had been human handled in the case of mockingbirds. So yesterday I tried to do the right thing and opened his cage and let him fly away where we’d found him.Lots of mockingbirds flew up to him but no one would feed him,we watched for hours.
I tried to leave it in nature’s hands and said a little prayer for him.Well, today he was crying at my back door starving. He let me get him and feed him and went back in his little cage.
I know it’s illegal to keep these birds,I tried to let him go.
But what about the whole
“If you love something set it free,If it comes back to you” thing?
I’m going to keep him…
but I don’t know how to teach him to go from dropper to eating for himself…
No Gracee,I have no clue how old he is…
