Love Bird breeding questions?

I have 2 peach faced love birds, both are about 1 year old. I’m not sure but I think one is a male, and one is a female. I have them together in a large cage with a nesting box. I see them “doing it” all day long. They do it both inside, and outside of the nesting box. Like I said I’m not sure of their sex, if they are the same sex, boy and boy or girl and girl, will they keep doing it, even though they can’t produce anything? Also I can’t seperate them because when I did The one that I think is a female ripped out her feathers from stress. I do not want babies, so when they lay eggs I plan on taking them out as soon as i see them to prevent hatching, is this a good idea? If not what’s a better idea? I also thought about getting fake eggs and replace the fake ones with the real ones, so she will not keep producing eggs, is this a good idea?

New Society Finch Owner! Help me!?

Hey everyone! I bought two society finches Friday. The gentleman said they were too young to know for sure what the sex was, but he believed he got a pair. *How old do you think they are. Stupid me forgot to ask* One of them sits and sings constantly while the other kinda squawks. I thought I read somewhere that the singer is the male? Is this true? I bought them finch food and a mite protection thing. When should I buy them a nesting box? I understand it’s necessary for breeding, but should I get one now?I have done a little research and learned they like fruits and veggies. I put park of a cellery stalk through the bars and they want nothing to do with it. Can anyone tell me about the fruits/veggies they prefer.
I had a parakeet in the past, so I know most birds need cuttle bones. Uh. That’s about all I know. Please don’t flame me for going in unprepared because I know. Lol.
I am basically looking for ANY information about my beautiful birds. I hope to have them a long time.

Will same sex love birds try to mate?

i have 2 love birds and i could swear there male and female. The one that i thought was the female seems to accually be a male, or well it takes on the male roll ( sex wise ) and the female the one that i thought was the male is gathering stuff and makeing a nest in the box. My girlfriend and i are worried that they may be the same sex and are just confused. We do have 6 parrotlets but those we know for sure of there sex’s, just we bought our love birds from the Pet shop and they didnt have any classification on what sex they were, the only thing they said was that the “Now” female kept breaking out of her cage to get to the “Now” male’s cage, is that a sign that there both opposite sex?

Mating Cockatiels, advise?

I often personally rescue animals and try to find them a new home once they are healthy and sociable, if I don’t become attached that is. In the beginning of December, I was referred to a home that had a pair of cockatiels that were living in an extremely unhealthy habitat. They were not being fed or watered properly, they had mold growing in the water dish, droppings inches deep on the bottom of the rabbit cage that they were being kept it and one had a severe eye infection, they were not vocal, they were scared, dirty and over all unhealthy. I was able to take possession of the tiels, I got them clean, healthy and the eye infection taken care of and of course, became attached. I assumed that they were the same sex (I know some will not accept a cage mate of the same sex, but it is not impossible) because they had never mated before but I also knew that their stressful environment could also be the problem. Then about two weeks ago, I noticed that they had started to mate. I’ve caught them in action 3 or 4 different days. I know that it can take around 20-30 days for her to lay her first clutch of eggs and then another 20-30 days for them to hatch, I have consulted with a local pet store that also raise birds and they helped me pick out a calcium supplement for the bird to lay healthy hard eggs and also helped me to pick out a nesting box. What I’m wondering is, how likely is it for them to try to mate if they are of the same sex? I do know that some dogs, whether it be two males or a female in heat will often try to mate with another dog of the same sex, cats not so much (though a friend of mine had a cat and dog that tried to mate on occasion). How do I know that they are actually mating and not just relieving their natural sexual frustration? Do I just wait to see if “she” lays eggs? Also, when they lay and they do hatch, is it best to hand raise them or let the mother and father raise them (yes, the father will help the mother)? I’ve always dealt with rescuing dogs and cats, so I’m a little lost when it comes to birds.

I’m sure that this question seems weird and possibly crazy, but it is a serious question and I do ask for only serious responses! Any true advise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much! The pet store did in fact say no grit or crushed oyster shells because they may eat too much and it may become compacted in their stomachs. They told me to just use the reptile calcium supplement once, maybe twice a week sprinkled on their food and I was not advised to add anything to their water. Since I got them, I’ve been giving them vitamin drops in their food and it really did seem to help them become healthy faster. They gained weight, their feathers became much more normal and I’ve experienced no problems with the birds since I’ve had them.

Lovebirds?

I just got two baby lovebirds, they are sibblings though I dont know the sex. I They are about 8 or 10 weeks old and the breeder put them in the same cage. I just wanted to know if this is ok? They are very friendly and playful and she told me they are hand feed though I havent tried scince they got here because I dont want to frighten them. And the breeder didnt say to put one in a different cage. But they are always cuddling and playing togetherand Im not planning on breeding them to any other birds, so is it ok to leave them together?
